HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-03-17 Public Comment - C. Zabinski - Black OliveI have lived at 302 S. Bozeman Avenue since November 1999, and am opposed to the proposed
Black-Olive development, because of the incongruence of scale and design with the
neighborhood, and because of the undue stress on parking resources in the neighborhood. I am
not opposed to development on the corner of Black and Olive, and I think a smaller scale
building that provides adequate parking and serves as a bridge between the current neighborhood
and downtown would be welcomed.
I am enthusiastic about car-sharing programs, and minimizing car use in the city. In the 17 years
I have worked at MSU, I can count the number of times I have driven my car to work on one
hand, maybe two. I have friends and family who are part of car-sharing programs in Portland and
Minneapolis. But considering that many of us live in Bozeman to take advantage of outdoor
recreation opportunities, and that we have recreation options in all directions, a lot of bike/walk
advocates use our cars on weekends to get to beautiful places. If the commissioners use a car-
share program to justify shorting the parking availability for Black-Olive, I encourage you to
first find the data that shows that car-share programs work in settings like Bozeman, where one
of the most compelling reasons to use a car is to explore the natural areas around the city,
primarily on weekends.
