Subject: Black-Olive proposal vote
Dear Mr. Mayor, Ms. Deputy Mayor, and Commissioners,
I live on the north side but I writing to comment on the Black-Olive proposal.
First, that corner can definitely use a face lift. I can appreciate the desire to maintain and
improve buildings not only for its inhabitants but for the benefit of all in the community.
That said, the project as it is proposed is ludicrous on many levels and I request that you follow
the lead by the review board to oppose it.
First and foremost, the mass and scale of the building is over the top for that site. It would
fundamentally change the character of the neighborhood and put unnecessary pressure on
those who already live there. To call those who oppose this project NIMBYs is an insult. I admire
people who take pride in their neighborhoods and will fight to save the quality of life they
enjoy.
Secondly, the infrastructure does not exist to even pull this project off - not enough parking, not
enough water/sewer and street capacity. This project is being driven by GREED NOT NEED. Let's
see a proposal that benefits the existing community not one that strains the neighbors and all
of us, frankly.
Your approval of this project would amount to a tacit acceptance of big money driving what
Bozeman stands for. Listen to those of us who care about saving Bozeman. Let's not destroy the
very thing that is drawing people here - quiet residential communities with easy access to the
outdoors.
Building this Black-Olive project not only would fracture the quiet character of the
neighborhood, it would be part of the incremental devouring of Bozeman livability. Also, the
idea that people living in high density buildings wouldn't own vehicles to access the wilds that
surround Bozeman - or even just to go to one of the many big box stores that have been lured
here by tax incentives - is naive.
Thank you for listening to my sincere concern. I, and all of Bozeman, will be watching how you
vote on this precedent setting decision.
Sincerely,
Angela Kociolek
