RE: Evolving City
We the undersigned support the following tenets in regards to the development and evolution of
our community, specifically in the center of the city:
1. The work of building and sustaining cities is an ongoing endeavor and must be looked at
objectively and comprehensively, across properties and zoning designations.
2. Forward thinking, bold vision and proactivity are necessary to build, maintain and
strengthen downtown’s commercial success, social vitality, and cultural vibrancy.
3. Downtown is an economic catalyst for the region and should be the location of
Bozeman’s greatest building heights and density.
4. Downtown’s long history of comprehensive planning has served the community well by
creating a published vision and predictable development environment.
5. Shared parking is an essential part of vibrant cities where sufficient public parking is
available because the same parking serves many different uses and destinations are
within a walkable distance.
6. Building design and detailing are important considerations, but there is nothing
inherently negative with height, mass or density.
7. Downtown is a diverse walkable neighborhood that has evolved for over one hundred
years. Downtown’s continued maturation is critical as Bozeman continues growing from
a big town to a small city.
Thank you for your ongoing efforts and careful considerations,
