RE: Black Olive – Parking Concern
I live just eight houses down from the proposed Black Olive project on South
Black. Like most that live this close to downtown I walk or ride bike for my
errands and activities. But, like many residents I moved here for the
surrounding outdoor recreational opportunities which require a vehicle to
access. In fact I have two vehicles and I am single. Fortunately they can fit in
my driveway but any visitors must park on the street.
It is totally irrational to think that some or many of the residents in this
development will not have a vehicle. A rental property next to me has five
students, all of whom have cars. Another rental property kitty corner across
the street has six students and they each have cars. Three can fit in the drive
but the other three have to park on the street. A family of four across from me
has three vehicles and a household of two next to me has three vehicles. I do
not know of anyone within walking distance to downtown who does not own a
vehicle. Does Andy?
The Black Olive is way out of character with this neighborhood and it will
produce a parking nightmare for all of downtown Bozeman. The city should
consider changing the code to requiring each bedroom to have an off-street
parking space.
