Commission Memorandum
REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: John Van Delinder- Street Superintendent
Craig Woolard- Director of Public Works
SUBJECT: Ratify the Street Division's Grant Submission for the 2017 Montana Air and Congestion Initiative (MACI) Equipment Purchase Program to Purchase a Water Flush Truck and/or
Sweepers
MEETING DATE: April 3, 2017
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent
RECOMMENDATION: Support the application to pay our 13.42% share of a flusher truck and sweeper through the MACI program.
BACKGROUND: The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) has a program that
addresses particulate matter in the air in Montana. Eligibility for the program is based on an
area’s Particulate Matter (PM10) nonattainment status or risk of becoming one. Bozeman has been identified as being at risk of becoming nonattainment for PM10. MDT’s MACI program
provides 86.58% of the funding: the remaining 13.42% is our responsibility as a match
requirement. The more sweeping we can do the cleaner our air will be.
UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None
ALTERNATIVES: None
FISCAL EFFECTS: Our FY18-FY22 approved CIP plan has money for sweeper leases and a
Flusher Truck.
