HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-01-25 :Ui9 Bozeman, Montana January 26, 1961 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Roam, City Hall Building, Wednesday, January 25, 1961 at 1:00 o'clock p.m. Present were Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher, Co~nissioner Sedivy, City Manager Cutting, Ass't. City Manager F~slie, City Attorney I Lovelace and the Clerk. The following proceedings were had: Minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudeher and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting No, none. Report The December, 1960 report of the Director of Finanoe was presented. The City Manager reviewed the report with the Comr:1ission and stated that all financial operatbns of the City appeared to be normal at the mid-year period. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that the report be approved and filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaher; those voting No, none. 4" Sewer Tile -- Purchase The City Manager reported that the City has need for an additional supply of 4" sewer tile and requested authority to place an order for 1500' at a total approximate cost of $600.00. It was moved I by Commissioner Sta,udaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the purchase be authorized and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting No, none. Street Lite Cable -- Purchase The City Manager reported that the City has need for a supply of No. 8 street lite cable and stated an order of 2,000' (one spool) would provide a favorable price bracket in the approximate total cost of $650.00 and requested authority to place the order. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that the authority be granted and the motion was carried by the following ~e and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaher; those voting No, none. Appointment -... Ralph E. Dunahoo, Water Superintendent The City Manager announced his appointment of Ralph E. Dunahoo, acting superintendent since October 1st, 1960, to the position of Superintendent of the Water Department effective January 1st, 1961. It was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy. that the appointment be approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote, those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and Commissioner Sedivy. those voting No, none. I Mili tary Leave -- City Manager The City Manager informed the Comdssion that as a member of-the Ready Reserve of the Armed Forces he has been ordered to 15 days of active duty for training from February 11th to the 25th, 1961, at San Diego, California and requested that military leave per.mitting his compliance with these orders be approved, and Harold A. Fryslie, his assistant, be designated Acting City Manager during his absence. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that the request be granted and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No vote, those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaher; those voting No, none. :~70 Hearing -- Smyrl, Application for Dog Kennel License This was the time and place soheduled by the City Commission for a public hearing regarding the application submitted by Mr. and Mrs. Samual H. Smyrl requesting a license be issued for a Dog Kennel at 509 South Eleventh Avenue. The affidavit of publication of the "Notice of Hearing" was presented. A letter addressed to the City Manager, written by the lessor of the aforementioned pro- perty, and a petition filed January 24th bearing the signatures of residents in the neighborhood pro- I . testing the granting of the lictnle-::w,erepresented. After Mrs. Smyrl spoke in their behalf, the hear- ing was recessed until February 1st, the next regular meeting of the Commission, in order that addi- tional testimony could be presented. Request -- Laundromat and Automatic Dry Cleaner (720 S. lOth) R. C. Wetherell, President of the Western Loan and Development Co., presented a request that the City grant permission for the operation of a Laundromat and Automatic Dry Cleaning establishment at 720 S. lOth Avenue. After a disoussion of the request, the City AttoI"lle~' adVii.-ed.the Commission that the applicant should first secure a building permit for construction at this location which would involve Board of Adjustment action, since the enterprise contemplated is not indicated as per.mitted by the Zoning Ordinance in this zone. Members of the Commission advised Mr. Wetherell accordingly, and further action was tabled pending accomplishment of zoning requirements. Investment of Surplus Cash from City Funds A request from the Director of Finanoe for authority to invest idle surplus funds in U. S. Treasury Bills as tollowSI $32,000 Approximately 30 days 31,000 .... 60 .. 78,000 .... 90 .. I 32,000 .... 120 · 25,000 .... 150 .. $198,000 and $16,000 of Per.manent Care funds in U.S. Government bonds due 11/15/74, was presented. The City , Manager recommended authorization of the investments and it was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, sec- onded by Commissioner Staudaher, that the authorization be granted and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No votel those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaher; those voting No, none.
