HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-08-31 2~)8 Bozeman, Montana August 31, 1960 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commis- sion Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday, August 31, 1960 at 1:00 o'clock p.m. Present were Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy, City Manager Cutting, Ass't. City Manager Fryslie and the Clerk. The following proceedings were had: Minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting No, none. S.r.D. No. 411 -- Change Order Change Order No. 1 to Plans and Specifications for construction of S.I.D. No. 411 as prepared by Harold Hoskins & A8BuclaG~s, s~pervia~4g engineers, was pres en ted. It authorized additional work at a cost of $140.00 for the Contractor to cast a concrete lid on an existing sanitary manhole on Third Avenue at the intersection of Short Street to prOVide a support for the ring and cover when adjustment of the manhole is made to proper grade. The City Manager recommended that the Commission approve the change order and it was moved by Commissioner Sedi vy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that the change order be approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being I Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaher; those voting No, None. S.I.D. No. 416 -- Change Order Change Order No.1 to Plans and Specifications for construction of S.I.D. No. 416 as prepared by Harold Hoskins & Associates, supervising engineers, was presented. It authorized additional work at a cost of $140.00 for the Contractor to cast a concrete lid on an existing sanitary manhole on Curtiss Street at the interseotion of Golf Way to provide a support for the ring and cover when adjust- ment on the manhole 1s made to proper grade. The City Manager recommended that the Commission approve the change order and it was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the change order be approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and Commissioner SediVY; those voting No, none. Advertise for Bids for Backhoe -- Water Department Bid specifications prepared for the purchase of a backhoe for use in the Water Department were placed before the Commission. The City Manager stated that I the bid price of the unit should be approximately $8,500.00 and recommended that the city advertise for bids. It was moved by Commissioner SediVY, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that the Clerk be directed to advertise for bids for an opening date of September 21, 1960 and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaher; those voting No, none. 299 Advertise for B,ids for "Fire Engine - Pumper" Bid specifications prepared by Chief of Police Pentilla for the purchase of a "Fire Engine - Pumper" were placed before the Commission. Chief Pentilla stated that the bid price of such a unit should be approximately $20,000. It was recom- mended by the City Manager that the Clerk be directed to advertise for bids as , I SP~cified. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that the Clerk be directed to advertise for bids as set forth in the specifications and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye be- ing Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaher; those voting No; none. Advertise for Bids for Fire Hose Bid specifications for thepurohase of 1400' of 3" fire hose in the approxlm.a te amount of $2,100.00 were placed before the Commission. The City Manager recommended that the Clerk be direoted to advertise for bids. It was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the Commission approved the manager's recommendation and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting No, none. Ambulanoe Mrs. Fred Skoog, operator of the City Taxi Service and the local ambulanoe, County Clerk and Recorder Earl Walton and Guy Sperry, representing the oivic affairs I committee of the Bozeman Chamber of Commerce, and the City Commission further dis- cussed the matter of a more efficient and profitable operation of the looal ambulanoe. Ma yor Swanson and County Clerk and Recorder Walton, as members of __ the Board of the City~County Ambulanoe Service, concurred in Mrs. Skoog's request to increase the basic fee to $10.00 for oity calls during the day and $11.00 at night. Create Additional Sprinkling Districts The City Manager reoommended to the Commission that the City create three additional sprinkling districts in the areas of Babcock, Mendenhall, and West Main Street. It was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner SediVY, that the City Attorney be directed to prepare the necessary resolutions to provide for the creation and assessment of the districts and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting No, none. Municipal League Meeting -~ Authority to Travel The Montana Municipal League has announced a meeting of its Executive and Legislative Committees to be held in Lewlstown on September 8, 1960. It was moved I by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, the t Mayor Swanson as a member of the Execu ti ve Connnl ttee and the C1 ty Manager as a member of the Legis- 1ative Committee be authorized to attend the meeting and that, it being in the public interest, their expense for such attendance be paid from the General Fund and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaher; those voting No, none. lJAll 300 Administrative Memorandum -- Commission Policy on Affiliations - Professional Organizatiop The City Manager presented a proposed Administrative Memorandum in regard to the affiliation of City employees with governmental or professional organizations. It was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, tha t the pOlicies incorporated in the memorandum be approved and established effective as of Au.gust 31, 196U, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vo te : those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and Commis- sioner Sedivy; those voting No, none. Swimming Pool -- Report of Operations for 1960 A report of the operations of the swimming pool for the current year, to- gether with comparision reports of prior years to and including 1951, was placed before the Commission for review and study.
