The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission
Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday, February 24, 1960 at 1:00 o'clock P.M. Present
were Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy, City Manager Cutting,
Ass't. Manager Fryslle and the Clerk. The following proceedings were had:
I Minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commissioner
Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that the minutes be approved as read and
the motion was carried by the followinB Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor
Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaherj those voting No, none.
Continuation Certificate of Budd Plumbing & Heating
A Continuation Certificate for a Gas Fitter's Bond for Budd Plumbing and Heating
Company was presented. The certificate was approved as to form by the City Attorney.
It was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the certi-
ficate be approved and accepted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No
vote: those Voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and Commissioner
Sedivy; those voting No, none.
Continuation Certificate for C. E. Anderson
A Continuation Certificate for a Plumber's License Bond for C. E. Anderson was
presented. The certlficate was approved as to form by the City Attorney. It was moved
by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the certificate be
1 approved and accepted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote:
those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and Commissioner Sedivy;
those voting No, none.
Reports
The following reports were presented:
Report of Dog Marshall - (2/1 - 2/23/60)
Director of Finance - January, 1960
It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that the
reports be approved and filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No
vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner
S ta udaher ; those voting No, none.
Request - Boy Scout Parade on Main Street, 2:00 P.M., April 2, 1960
The Local Boy Scout Council has requested permission to stage a parade on Main
street at 2:00 o'clock P.M., Saturday, April 2, 1960 and, also, that the City display
the American Flags on Main street during the parade. It was decided that action on the
request for the display of the flags be deferred until a later date. It was then moved
by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that the Boy Scouts be
I granted permission to hold the parade on the date requested and the motion was carried
by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner
Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaherj those voting No, none.
Request - City Fire Department to Burn Building for Bozeman Sheet Metal Works
City Manager Cutting presented a letter received from -the Bozeman Sheet Metal
Works which requested the City Fire Department to destroy by fire its building located
at the soutwest corner of Mendenhall and Wallace. The Commission discussed the matter
in detail, and it was moved by Commissioner Sedivy that th~ req~~t be granted only

when and after the owner of the property secures adequate liability insl~Ance covering
possible damage or loss to adjoining property as a result of the fire, that the Bozeman
Sheet Metal Works secure acceptable releases for possible damages against the City as a
result of the act from adjoining property owners and all other owners in the immediate
area, and that the property owner start the building afire. Commissioner Staudaher
seconded the motion as stated by Commissioner Sedivy. The motion was carried by the I"
following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner
Staudaher; those voting No, Mayor Swanson.
Request - MSC Senior Class to Place a Marquee in Downtown Area
Arjay Godston, president of the senior class at Montana State College, appeared be-
fore the Commission to request permission for his class to construct a Marquee on the park
area on 8th Avenue at its intersection with Main Street and U.S. #191. The purpose of
the Marquee would be to advertise M)ntana State College and events scheduled to occur on
the college campus. Action on the request was deferred for further study.
Request - Change in Procedure of Operation of Ambulance
David Delap end R. Earl Dawes, members of the Chamber of Commerce clvie affalr~,
appeared before the Commission to discuss e possible change in the procedure of operating
the local ambulance. The Comrnission was informed that the present operator of the
ambulance, City Taxi, under present arrangements with the Gallatin Ambulance Service is
now operating the ambulance service at a financial loss and has requested the change.
It was suggested by the committee that possibly the City Fire Department could perform
the service. The Chamber of Commerce Committee further advised that the matter would be 1
discussed with the Board of County Commissioners. The problem was tabled for further
study. . .
Request - Enforcement of Present Ordinance Pertaining to Dogs
Malcolm Story appeared before the Commission to request that the City strictly
enforce its present ordinance pertaining to dogs, and not resort to the passing of a
leash law.
Truck Route - Joint Meeting
The Board of County Commissioners met with the Commission for a discussion of the
Truck Route as now designated through Bo~eman. Undesi.r~able features of the present
route as well as possible alternate routes were revi.ewed. The County Commissioners
pointed out that maintaining the county section of the route and the immediate need for
heavier surfacing was the major problem to them and requested that the City participate
in that cost. They also advised that intersecting traffic from the Bridge Road was be-
coming more and more of a traffic hazard problem. No action was taken pending further
study of the situation.

There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was
moved by Commissioner .Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the meeting adjourn
and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being
Mayor Swanson, Commis.sioner ~taudaher and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting No, none.
