Subject: Please accept the Black Olive Project
Dear Commissioners,
I write to urge you to accept the Black-Olive project in its current form. We live at the 800 block of Black
and drive past this area every day. Andy Halloran may not have been aware before he designed Black-
Olive that the building possibly violates some Bozeman zoning laws. It may be close to a historic
residential neighborhood (which we think already goes well beyond any historic buildings). However,
building something like this within a block of the 5 story Federal Building, is so much better than outside
of town. Halloran has made good effort to adjust the scale size and appearance of the building in order
to improve its acceptability to our area. He is adding to our community by reducing some development
on the outskirts of town, and giving wealthier housing searchers a place to live and reduce their
competition with lower cost housing.. The decision the City Commission makes on Black-Olive will have
profound implications for our future. We must now stand up and defend the reasonable rules that we
established to maintain balanced growth Are we, the citizens of this community – through our elected
representatives - going to determine the future of our city? Please approve this project and reduce
increased development on of the fringes of our city and allow that area to remain as wild as possible.
Thank you for your careful consideration of this project and the future of our city.
Yours sincerely, Tom Hayes and Liz McGoff
