The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission
Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday, March 9, 1960 at 1:00 o'clock P.M. Present were
Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Staudaher, City Manager Cutting,
Ass't. Manager Fryslie, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk.
I Minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commissioner
Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the minutes be approved as read and
the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being
Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting No, none.
Agreement - City and State Highway Commdssion, SID #4l5
A proposed agreement between the City of Bozeman and the State Highway Commis-
sion governing the regulation of traffic, traffic signals, erection of signs, e tc . ,
for the urban section of Federal Aid Project No. F 203(7) as incorporated in Special
Improvement District No. 415, was presented. This standard agreement, required by the
Federal Bureau of Public Roads for participation of federal funds in this project was
approved as to form by the City Attorney and recommended by the City Manager. It was
moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that the City enter into
the agreement and the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to sign for the City and the
motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor
Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudahsr; those voting No, none.
Claim - SID #415, City's Participation as Contained in Resolution #969
I The City Manager reported that since Federal Aid Project No. 203(7), including
the City's Special Improvement District No. 415, is now advertised for bid opening on
March 16, 1960 rather than on April 20, 1960 as originally announced, the City would be
required to make payment of its participating share of the cost at an earlier date than
anticipa ted. He therefore recommended approval of a claim from the State Highway
Commission in the stipulated amount of $4,960.95 (25% of the estimated cost of the
urban section) when presented in proper form and that the Director of Finance be author-
ized to issue warrant for its payment. It was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded
by Commissioner Sedivy, tha t this claim be approved and payment made as recommended
and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being
Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and CommiSSioner Sedivy; those voting No, none.
Investment - Portion of Cash from City Funds in U.S. Gov't. Securities
A report from the Director of Finance was presented indicating that cash balanoes
will be on hand from investments maturing on March l7, 1960 in the following funds
and approximate amounts:
I General $52,500
Library 5,400
P.E.R.S. 2,lUO
Park 23,000
Street 21,000
Garbage 20,000
and that operational needs considered, these funds in the a pprox ima te total amount of
$124,000 could be reinvested in the following manner:
"Thirty-day U.S. Treasury Bills" . . . . . $48,000
"Sixty-day U.S. Treasury Bills" . . . . . 39,000
"Ninety-day U.S. Treasury Bills" . . . . . 37,000

The City Manager pointed out that the interest from such investments is a sub-
stantial source of income to the City and recommended that the Director of Finance be
authorized to reinvest these funds in accordance with the above schedule. It was
moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the investment
of these funds as recommended b. authorized and the motion was carried by the follow-
ing Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher I
and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting No, none.
Authorization - Dewey Johnson to Attend Training In Livingston
Presented was a request from the Chief of the Fire Department that Fire-fighter
Dewey Johnson of his department be authorized to attend a training course entitled
"iFire Stream Practices" being given in Livingston from April 4th to the 13th, 1960
inclusive, and that Johnson be provided with transportation and one meal each day of
the training period. On recommendation of the City Manager, it was moved by Commis-
sioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that this request be approved
and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being
Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaher; those voting No, none.

Sanitarian Chief of Police
It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that
the reports be approved and filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and
No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Comndssioner I,
Staudaher; those voting No, none.
Request - Closing of Skating Rinks, Ltr/ Brotherhood Carpenters & Joiners
A letter written by the Brotherhood of Carpenters & ~olner. was presented
urging the City to reconsider the closing of the City operated skating rinks, and to
maintain these recreational facilities as long as weather conditions permit. Follow-
ing a further discussion of factors dictating the closing of the rinks, it was
suggested that Recreation Director Glen White be delegated to appear before this
organization and present the City'S attitude in the matter.
Request - Sign at Chambers-Fisher Building
Oswald Berg, Jr. reappeared before the Commission in regard to his request for
a' waiver of a portion of Ordinance No. 786 as it app!ies to a sign incorporated in
plans for remodeling the front of the present Chambers-Fisher Building, which sign
as designed would be in violation of the ordinance. On recommendation of the City
Manager, it was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy,
that in this case an exception to Ordinanoe No. 786 be granted and the Building
Inspector be authorized to permit the erection or this sign under the provision of I
"The Uniform Sign Code~ as pub!ished by the International Conference of Building
Officials and the motion was carried by the fo!lowing Aye and No vote: those voting
Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting
No, none.
Corrected Plat - Proposed Re-arrangement of Portion of Durston Sub-division
A corrected plat of a proposed re-arrangement to be known as the Brunton-Palffy

Re-arrangement of a Portion of Durston's Sub-division was placed before the Commission.
The origina~ p~atting of this proposed re-arrangement had been previously approved by
Commission action on December 23rd, 1959, but it had been found that correction in
property descriptions and in the platting were required. Action on the matter was de-
ferred for the purpose of further study.

There b.ing no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it
was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the meet-
ing adjourn and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting
