SUBJECT: Authorize the City Manager to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the
USDA Forest Service Custer Gallatin National Forest for municipal watershed projects.

RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign a Memorandum of
Understanding with the USDA Forest Service Custer Gallatin National Forest for municipal
watershed projects.
BACKGROUND: The attached MOU extends for a period of 5 years the existing, albeit currently expired, MOU between the city and USFS regarding projects in municipal watersheds
on Custer Gallatin National Forest lands (Hyalite and Sourdough). This is the third such MOU
that the city and USFS have entered into over the years.
The purpose of the MOU is to document the cooperation between the parties to maintain in the long term a high quality, predictable water supply for the city through cooperative efforts in
implementing sustainable land management practices. This framework of cooperation serves the
mutual interest of the parties and the public it serves.
FISCAL EFFECTS: None.
