HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-08-17 Public Comment - L. Ryan - Black OliveDear Mr. Mayor and City Commissioners,
As a 30 year (+) resident of Bozeman, and a former downtown retail business owner (15 years), I am writing to
express my full support of the Black/Olive project.
As proposed, Black/Olive is essential to the continued positive development and vitality of our downtown
core, and it is completely compatible within its neighborhood’s context. Not only does supporting this type of
infill enhance the viability of every downtown business, it encourages growth and diversity of downtown
residents.
While there is much misaligned rhetoric that this project isn’t “right” for some people’s backyards, I disagree.
The location and mid-rise size (5 stories) of the proposed building will nestle aptly among the existing
surrounding structures in this versatile B3 zone.
Also, the onus of possible parking challenges should not solely fall on the shoulders of the Black/Olive project.
As the design has met all requirements already in place with the city’s guidelines, it is a remarkably bad
precedent to change the established rules of the game in the 4th quarter, so to speak, because some spectators
don’t like the score.
The true tipping point to approving the Black/Olive project will set the standard going forward in honoring
established city codes and laws. I encourage you to approve this project, as it will be a tremendous asset to life
downtown, and our community.
Respectfully,
Laura Ryan
