Thank you for your efforts in developing the strategic plan you will consider on tonight's
agenda. It will be very helpful in guiding Bozeman's future.
I support the strategic plan you have developed and want to provide input on one
specific aspect of the plan: A well-planned city. Bozeman is growing, and will continue
to grow for the foreseeable future. It is imperative that the city grow in a thoughtful way
that is well-planned, managed, and implemented in a manner that benefits the entire
community.
Having come from California, I have seen the impacts unchecked growth can have on a
community: loss of open space and farmlands, intolerable traffic, lack of defined urban
cores, and sprawling suburbs. Bozeman is fortunate to be in a position to shape its
future growth using smart, environmentally-sound and community-friendly planning
principles. These include a strong emphasis on infill and increased urban density, using
creative tools to limit sprawl, smart design principles, and thoughtful transportation.
I appreciate the attention the plan gives to these issues--including, in particular,
increased infill and density--and look forward to working with the City in my role as a
planning board member to implement these important principles.
