June 10, 1959
The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall
Building, Wednesday, June 10, 1959 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Erwin, Commissioner
Swanson, Commissioner Berg, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk. The
following proceedings were had:
Minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded I
by Mayor Erwin, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was carried by the following Aye
and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, COmmissioner Swanson and Commissioner Berg; those
voting No, none.
Report on Playground Equipment
Mr. John G. Parker, Chairman of the Recreation Board, was present and reported that, from a
personal inspection of playground equipment at the various parks, he finds in most cases that the
equipment needs replacement or extensive repair. He requested the City Camm1ssion to consider levying
an additional two-tenths mill in the Park Fund for replacement and repair of all playground equipment.
Mr. Parker was informed that his recommendations and findings will be given consideration.
Building - Addition 522 West Main Approved
Request for a building permit by Mr. Harold King, 522 West Main Street, which was considered at
the last regular meeting, was further considered. It was moved by Commissioner Berg, seconded by
Commissioner Swanson, that any restriction as to this fire-protected addition being added to a frame
building be waived, and that the Building Inspector be authorized to issue a permit for this building,
and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin,
Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none. I

License Fee for r.ircus Set
written inquiry was presented from the Gallatin Shrine Club requesting information on the license
which would be required for a circus which they are sponsoring to show in the Field House at M. S. C.
on July 20, 1959. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that, in
view of the fact that net proceeds of this circus will be used for charitable purposes, the license
fee be set at $50.00 and that, upon submission of an application in proper form together with the
$50.00 fee herein set, a license for this one day showing of the circus be granted and the motion was
carried by the following ~ye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson
and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Poles for Banners Approved
Request from the Junior Chamber of Commerce to erect poles on street areas on which to carry
banners advertising local functions was reported. The poles are proposed to be erected at the follow-
ing locations:
East Main Street at Buttonwood Avenue
West Main Street at Ninth Avenue
North Seventh Avenue at the City Limits. I
It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that, subject to specifica-
tions of the City Engineer as to exact locations, height of poles, method of setting and similar
details and subject to the Bozeman Junior Chamber of Commerce furnishing acceptable proof of their
carrying adequate insurance to save themselves and the City of Bozeman, jointly and several~y, free
fram any liability, loss or damage arising from the erection or use of these poles, the request be
approved and granted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye
being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.

The following reports for the month of May, 1959 were presented:
Cemetery Board Police Judge
It was moved by Commissioner Berg, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the reports be approved
and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye
being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
I Recreation - Baseball Field
, Mr. John P. Parker was present to inquire if the city was making plans for a baseball field to
replace Williams Field. It was suggested to Mr. Parker that he contact a committee of local citizens,
of which A. Glen White, Recreation Director, is a member, who are looking into ways and means by
which new and additional baseball facilities can be provided for Bozeman.
General Discussion
The City Commission had a general discussion on the following subjects:
Proposed amendment to Zoning Ordinance
Regulations for the dump grounds under land-fill operation
New Hyalite View Sub-division.
Adjournment
There being no further business to came before the Commission at this time, it was moved by
Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson
and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
