The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall
Building, Wednesday, July 1, 1959 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Erwin, Commissioner
Swanson, Commissioner Berg, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk. The
following proceedings were had:
Minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded , I
by Commissioner Berg, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was carried by the following
Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner Berg;
those voting No, none.
Protest -- Use of Portion of Block G, Original Townsite, as Parking Lot
Mrs. Carl Tucker, 13 East Lamme, was present to protest the use of Lots 13 to 18, Block G, Original
Townsite, owned by Kenyon-Noble Lumber Company, as a parking lot. She was informed that temporary
permission to use these lots for parking and unloading of lumber was extended until August 1, 1959. It
was explained to her the procedure that will have to be followed if this portion of said block is
zoned to permit parking lots or if an exception is granted to the lumber company by the Board of
Adjustment.
Permission to Burn Temporary Housing at Montana State College
A communication from Martin Whalen, Physical Plant Superintendent of Montana State College, was
read asking permission to burn four temporary housing units, known as Campus Court, and have the
City Fire Department stand-by. The communication stated that Montana State College will hold the
City of Bozeman free of liability or damage which might occur from the burning of these buildings
and the Fire Department would gain knowledge of some new fire fighting methods. It was moved by I
Commissioner Berg, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the request be granted and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson
and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Closing Offices July 3rd, 1959
It was announced that the Governor of the State of Montana has declared Friday, July 3rd, 1959,
a legal holiday and that city operations would be closed down except for emergency operations which
include garbage collection and operation of the city dump.
Garbage Assessment - Base Charge for 1959
It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that the base charge for
garbage assessment for the year 1959 be set as of $17.00 for a four-room house and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson
and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Bonn Sub-division Approved
A plat of proposed Bonn Sub-division located on East Story at Church Street was presented. It
was moved by Commissioner Berg, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the plat be approved and the
Director of Public Service be authorized to approve it and the motion was carried by the following I
Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner Berg;
those voting No, none.
Platting of Re-arrangement of Bulen's Sub-division
A plat of a proposed re-arrangement of Lots 30 to 37 of Bulen's Sub-division, which is located
approximately one mile south of the city limits, was presented. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson,
seconded by Commissioner Berg, that the re-arrangement be approved, subject to changing the name so as
not to conflict with the name of a city addition, and the Director of Public Service be authorized to

approve the pla.t, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye
being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Radios for Depa.rtment Trucks
Need for mobile radio units for the Water Department, Street Department and the Park Department
was discussed. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that the Clerk
I of the Commission be authorized to advertise for bids for a central receiving and transmitting unit
and 4 mobile radio units and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye
being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by
Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson
and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
