HomeMy WebLinkAbout17- Mayoral Proclamation - Regarding the Visit of Miguel Fraga, First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy, to the City of Bozeman, Montana4 IIO� ' Proclamation Regarding the Visit of Miguel Fraga, First < ••. 1883, : �+;� Secretary of the Cuban Errrbassy, to the City of Bozeman, Montana WHEREAS, many residents of the City of Bozeman, including myself, have visited the Republic of Cuba; and WHEREAS, a number of our Bozeman community members have close ties to Cuba through their travels, including exchanges concerning and collaborative projects in women's human rights, eco - tourism and sustainable community development, music, arts and education, agriculture, renewable energy, fly fishing and other outdoor recreation businesses; and WHEREAS, the City of Bozeman is known as a City that values and welcomes different cultures and recognizes the importance of learning and exchanging understanding and ideas with all peoples; and WHEREAS, our national government has recently taken steps towards normalizing relationships between the two countries; and WHEREAS, First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Washington, Miguel Fraga, will visit the City of Bozeman and the State of Montana for the week offebruary 20-24; and WHEREAS, Montana State University is hosting a lecture and reception open to all for Mr. Fraga at the Procrastinator Theater on campus at 6:00 PM on February 21: and WHEREAS, Mr. Fraga will be present at a benefit Concert with Bozeman's own Bozambique Afro- Cuban Jazz group, on February 24. NOW, THEREFORE, I make this Mayoral Proclamation to: Welcome First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy, Miguel Fraga, to the City of Bozeman; and Encourage all of the residents of our City to attend the public appearances of First Secretary Fraga, so as to promote greater understanding between our part of the United States and the Republic of Cuba; and Exchange ideas and support additional ways such as citizen diplomacy to create mutually -beneficial relations between the people of our City and with the people of Cuba so that all from both nations can trade and travel freely.
