O'Leary - SanctuaryFrom: Misty [olearyclan4@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, February 07, 2017 7:30 PM To: Carson Taylor; Cyndy Andrus; Chris Mehl; I-Ho Pomeroy; Jeff Krauss Subject: February 6th, 2017 Proposal - Bozeman a Sanctuary City Mayor and City Council: I am shocked and appalled to find out about the suggested proposal to make Bozeman a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants during the February 6th city council meeting. The United States and the Gallatin Valley is ruled by laws, not political agendas. I consider it inexcusable that the Bozeman City Council would consider violating federal law in subjecting the citizens to this act of defiance. The mayor's role and the city council's role is to uphold the law and protect the citizens. I am not opposed to individuals who want to enter the United States legally. To label the enforcement of federal immigration law as “hostile,” “hate” or “bigotry” wreaks of ignorance and anger. Why on earth should the United States allow for the protection of illegal immigrants, when to do so increases crime, puts our country at risk for terror attacks, and takes jobs away from hard working, law-abiding citizens of this great nation. How is it that our country was founded on laws and principals established to protect it's citizens, and now all of a sudden those same laws that have been in place and working for 200+ years are politically incorrect? This small group of people are angry that the presidential election did not go as they wanted and now they want to act like petulant children who didn't get their way. I work in Bozeman and my son will attend MSU. I expect the Mayor and City Council to do everything in their power to protect it's residents, workers and students. I would hope the leadership in Bozeman are more concerned with the safety and protection of their citizens as a whole, instead of bending to the rantings of a small group of people who have obviously not truly considered the ramifications of defying the federal government and putting the citizens of Bozeman and the Gallatin Valley in danger. If the leadership chooses to approve this petition, be sure you hold yourselves and this small group of people you have chosen to support over the majority of your citizens and voters, responsible and accountable to the unimaginable damage that will surely befall this beautiful valley, and potentially the entire state. The Last Best Place will be a joke right alongside the other states who have bent to the whims of a few angry people, instead of upholding laws that are in place to protect us. Misty O'Leary
