Due to the vitriol present on KBZK's Facebook story about this, I thought I'd directly write. I
think that making Bozeman a sanctuary city is a great idea. I'm concerned about the potential for
crackdowns on illegal immigrants due to Trump, and this would be a good preemptive
measure. I work on campus with students from around the world, and I don't want those
potential policies to result in the harassment of legal foreign students. Because unfortunately, it
would likely target individuals of color, and it would be a tragedy if they left because they didn't
feel safe in our community.
I should note though, that it may be worthwhile to determine where funds that would usually be
secured from the federal government would come from, since Trump is threatening to stop
funding to sanctuary cities.
Since it always seems to be a point of contention for "real" residents of Bozeman, I do own
property in Gallatin County, and I'm not a liberal-minded student who is only here for school,
and therefore not a real resident. I think Montana should be welcoming and enjoyed by all.
