HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-11-27 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday, November 27, 1963 at 1:00 o'clock p.m. Present were Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy, Commis- sioner Morrow, City Manager Cutting, Asa't. C1ty Manager Frysl1e, City Attorney Berg and the Clerk. Commissioner Morrow opened the meeting with a prayer and the tol~ow- ing proceedings were had: Minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved byCommis- sioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Morrow, that the minutes as corrected to oontents and spelling be approved and the motion was oarried by the follOw- ing Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commis sioner Sedivy and Commissioner Morrow; t~ose. vot1ngN?, none. I 372 Bozeman, Montana November 2", 1963 Report of State Building Inspeotor Industrial Accident Board The report of the November 27, 196~ inspectlonof the ~ity Hall performed ... by John R. Mieh1e, inspec tor for thes(afety;depa.rtmen t, o.f. the Sta te Indus trial Accident Board, was presented by Mr. Miehle. 'l'he report stated the City Hall is very unsound and unsafe for occupancy and cited a number of other serious deficiencies of the structure. Death of President John F. Kennedy Resolution No. 1102 I Mayor Staudaher officially noted the death of President of the United States John F. Kennedy. The City Commission then passed and adopted the following resolution: COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 1108 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, GALLATIN COUNTY, MONTANA IN MEMORIAM TO PRESIDENT JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY. WHEREAS, President John F. Kennedy, thirty.fifth President of the United States, was struck down on Friday, November 22, 1963 by a hidden assassin and was taken from us by God's will, and WHEREAS, we, like all American citizens and civilized people everywhere, are shocked and horrified beyond expression at this untimely and senseless loss of our great President and the dynamic leadership upon which the United States and the world is so muo~ dependent. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN: Tha tit is the desire of this Ci ty adm1nls tra tion to take offic1al note of this dark tragedy and express its extreme feeling at outraged grief; That the reverence and humility at John F. Kennedy, his sense ot justioe, his patienoe and forebearance, his devotion to duty, to his country, and to his family 8 re in the highesttradi tion of our Amerioan way of life and will be an everlasting inspiration to all men; and That we rededioate ourselves to those qualities and to this Nation's basic principles of justice and liberty and ever strive to eliminate the opportunity for the perpetration of suoh dastard~y acts of the assassin, of the misguided, and of the mean and the v1cious. Jacqueline Kennedy and their children ind to the President's family, and that this Resolution be spread on the minutes Of this Commission and a properly oertified copy be appropriately tranmnitted to Mrs. Kennedy. Clerk of The City Commission Discussion Final Acceptanoe of Sewer Projects (SID Nots. 425 & 426) I The Commission was referred to its diseussion during the previous meeting, November BOth, pertaining to the acceptance of the contract work on the East and South Side Sewer Projects, SID No's. 425 and 426, and the deferment of act10n on the matter until this meeting. T. G. Haggerty of the Haggerty-Messmer Company again appeared and presented a written statement in behalf of his company and at the request of the City Attorney it was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Morrow, that the matter be tabled until December 18, 1963, to allow time for further study. The motion was carried by the rOl1owingAye and No vote: those voting Aye ,being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Morrow; those voting ~o, none. Award of Bid Water Department Backhoe I The Superintendent of the Water Department and the C1 ty Engineer having completed their tabulation of the bids submitted on November 2v, 1963, for the purohase of a new backhoe unU for use by the Water Department recommended that the City purohase the John Deere tractor with backhoe and loader attach- ments including options number one and four as offered by the Gallatin Equip- ment Company upon the basis of its net low bid of $3,402.10, including ~ade- the recommendation and it was Morrow Commissioner ~ that the in of the City's present unit as advertised. The City Manager conourred in Sedi VI moved by Commissioner JAAtomr/, seconded bY' (Mtp;. 12/4/63) purchase contract be awarded to Gallatin Equip- ment Company as recommended.
