HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-13-17 Public Comment - F. Ohman - Short Term RentalsHello Task Force,
I attended the past meeting where the Neighborhoods discussed
recommendations they were going to give the City Commissioners about
STR.
A few thoughts:
Years ago (2008) when I went to the Planning department to inquire about
procedures to be city compliant for STR, I was told that it was considered a
business in which my property had to be ADA compliant- hand rails in
bathrooms/showers, professionally landscaped with sprinkler systems, paved
driveways and a list of other things. It was quite expensive.
If a homeowner was to get a business license as you are recommending-
would the homeowner still be required to do these items or will a special
business license be created for STR? Would there also be a license required
for LTR or is a permit still enough to cover them?
I also wanted to comment in favor of keeping STR's in R-1. With so much
discussion on traffic, parking it seems unreasonable to not allow STR's in the
most walkable are of our city to our downtown. I think it is best to PROMOTE
and ENCOURAGE visitors to walk, ride bus/bikes around our town. If we take
R-1 out of the mix then the only option would for people to drive downtown
compounding on the entire traffic issue.
Please share my thoughts with the group. I hope this message makes it to
you in time of the special meeting to finalize your recommendations.
Thank you for your considerations and all of the thought and time you have
put into this matter.
Best,
Frances Ohman
