HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-01-23 210 Bozeman, Montana January 23 ,1963 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday, January 23, 1963 at 1:00 o'clock p.m. Present were Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy, Commis. sioner Morrow, City Manager Cutting, Ass't. City Manager It'rys1ie, City Attorney Berg and the Clerk. The following proceedings were had: Minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commis. sioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Morrow, that the minutes be approved al read and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Morrow; those I voting No, none. Purchase of Copper Tubing The City Manager reported the Water Department has need for an additional supply of (3/4") copper tubing and requested authoriza tion to place an order for 2,000 feet at an approximate cost of i725.00. It was moved by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that authorization for the purchase be granted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Morrow and Commissioner Sedivy; I those voting No, none. Purchase of Standby Rotor for Snow Plow The City Manager stated that the rotor mechanIsm of the City's Bros Snow Plow must be considered susceptibLe to breakage while working under present heavy snow and ice conditions which may be prolonged, and recommended that, as a safeguard against failure of the machine under emergency conditions, he be authorized to purchase a standby rotor at an approximate cost of $6UO.UU. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Morrow, that author- 1\ j".'. ization to purchase the rotor mechanIsm for the plow be granted as requested and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Morrow; those voting No, none. SID No. 425 Change Order No. One (1) Due to refusal of the Northern Pacifio Railway Company to permit the open ou t method of cons truc tion of the sani tary s ewer line under.i ts main spur Wack, Change Order No. One (1) to the plans and specifications of Special Im~vement District No. 425 as prepared by consultant engineers, Harold Hoskins and Associates, was pLaced before the Commission. Wayne W. Dean, project engineer, stated the order would increase the contrdct price of the project in the net amount of $2,524.00, and recommended the order be accepted and approved by the City. The City Manager stated that, under the cirCUMstance, he knew of no other alternative than to recommend approval of the change order. It was I 211 moved by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the o~er be be approved and accepted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Morrow and Commis- sioner Sedivy; those voting No, none. I Investment SIn FUnds is It was reported by the n.irector of Finance tha t there MJI approxima tely $124,OUO.00 currently credited to Special Improvement District No'a. 424, 425 and 426, NIt! that a demand in an appreoiable amount on the funds would not occur until weather conditions permit all-out construction work on the projects, and requested authority to invest the sum of $lUU,OOO.uo of the aforementioned sums in short-term U.S. Treasury bills. The City Manager concurred in the request and it was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Morrow, that the investment be authorized and the motion was carried by the fOllowing Aye and no vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Morrow; those voting No, none. I Candidates for Montana Law Enforoement Academy It was reported the 1963, Montana Law EnforceMent Academy is shoeduJ.ed to be held at Montana State College. The superVisory oourse to be held March 3rd thru the 8th, inClusive, with the course for patrolmen to follow May 12th thru the 25th, inclusive. Police Chief Saunders reported that he desired to submit the following applioations: Sgt. Rex M. Duncan to attend the supervisory course, and Earl G. SmiJ.ey, Jr. and James D. Miller to attend the course sched- uled for patrolmen. T.he City Manager recommended that if accepted as candidates, the attendance of the aforementioned members of the Police Department be approved and that, it being in the public interest, the expenses of the students be char- ged against the General fund. It was moved by Commissioner Morrow, seoonded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the recommendation of the City Manager be approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Morrol and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting No, none. Fire Department Relief Ass'n. State Examinerls Report The State Examiner's report of the examination of the Fire Department Relief Association's records was presented and reviewed. It contained no adverse oomments of the examiner. I Adj ourn~en t There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time it was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Morrow, that the meeting adjourn.
