The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commis-
sion Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday, October l'7th, 1962 at 1:00 orclock p.m.

I Present were Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Morrow, City
Manager Cutting, Assrt. City Manager Fryslie, City Attorney Berg and the Clerk.
The following proceedings were had:
Minutes of tne last regular session were read and it was moved by Commis-
sioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Morrow, that the minutes be approved as
read and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting
Aye being Mayor Staudaner, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Morrow; those
voting No, none.
Minutes of the special session held October 16th, 1962, were read and it
was moved by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the minu-
tes as corrected be approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and
No vote: those votipg Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Morrow and Commis-
sioner Sedivy; those voting No, none.
Letter of Request for a Local Observance of United Nations Day
Mrs. Dorothy W. Campbell, 'president of the local League of Women Voters,
appeared and presented a letter addressed to Mayor Staudaner, which stated the
I League of Women Voters of Bozeman respectfully requested a local observance of
United Nations Day.
Petition -- Recognition of United Nations Day.
Robert R. Stitt of 613 S. Willson appeared before the Commission to present
a petition signed by 367 individuals of the Gallatin Valley Community which
requested Mayor Staudaher to publicly declare October 24, 1962, United Nations
Day.
Approval of Addition to Garrett Freight Lines Warehouse, 320 E. Cottonwood
Lester C. Gee, manager of the local Garrett Freight Lines Terminal, appeared
to request that his company be granted permission to construct an addition to its
terminal warehouse at 320 E. Cottonwood. The Commission was informed that the
terminal is 10c8 ted in the "M" (Manufacturing) Zone of the City and industrial
and commercial businesses are permitted uses in that zone; however, pursuant to
the Zoning Ordinance, the establishment of any business in this zone is subject
to the approval of the Commission. It was moved by Commissioner SediVY, seconded
I by Commissioner Morrow, that the proposed addition to the Garrett Freight Lines
warehouse be approved as to zone use and the Building Inspector be instructed to
issue a building permit, as requested, pursuant and in accordance with the Bozeman
Municipal Code. The motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those
voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Morrow;
those voting No, none.

Water Meters -- Purchase
Tne City Manager reported that the Water Department has need for an addi-
tional supply of water meters and requested authority to place an order for
thirty-five (3/4") meters at a total approximate cost of $980.UO. It was moved
by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the purchase be
authorized and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those I
voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Morrow and Commissioner Sedivy;
those voting No, none.
Authority to Call for Bids (2..ton truck, Street Department)
The City Manager reported that the Street Department continues to have need
for a new 2-ton dump truck and requested authorization to purchase this equipment
and that the Clerk be directed to advertise for a call for bids for the purchase
in an approximate amount of $4,'15U.OO. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, sec-
onded by Commissioner Morrow, that the Clerk be directed to issue a "Call for
Bidsr.. for the purchase of a truck as recommended and the motion was carried by
the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commis-
sioner Sedivy and Commissioner Morrow; those voting No, none.
Proposed Ordinance -- Amendment to Present Traffic Ordinance No. 768 to
Establish KOch as Arterial (Stop Street from
Willson to 15th)
During the Commission meeting held September 12, 1962, the Commission tabled
action on a proposed ordinance which was prepared to amend Traffic Ordinance No. I
768, and establish Koch Street as an arterial (stop) street from Willson to 15th
Avenue with four-way stops at its intersections with 8th and 11th avenues. The
proposed ordinance was again placed before the Commission for discussion.
Mr. Arthur F. Shaw, a resident at 1209 West Koch, again appeared to object to
the proposa 1. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner
Morrow, that final action on the proposed ordinance be deferred for an indefinite
period. The motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting
Aye being Mayor Staudaher, commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Morrow; those
voting No, none.
Request ... .. Tag Day (Senior High School Band)
,
A written request that permission be granted to members of the Bozeman
Senior High School Band to conduct a tag day on October 2uth, to assist in its
project to purchase new band uniforms was presented. It was moved by Commissioner
Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the request be granted and the
motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being
Ma yor Staudaher, Commissioner Morrow and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting I
No, none.
Request -- Ta g Da y ("Forge t-Me"Not" Sale -- DAV)
A written request that the local post of the Disabled American Veterans
be permitted to stage a "Forget-Me-Not'" sale on October 20th, was presented.
That date having already been requested for another tag sale, Mr. Matt Geiger,

Adj.-Treas., of the DAV was contacted to ascertain if it would be agreeable to
the local post to change the date of its request to October 27th. Following reply
that the date change would be agreeabie, it was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, sec-
onded by Commissioner Morrow, that the request be granted for the date of October
I 27th, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting
. Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Morrow; those voting
No, none.
MSC Homecoming Parade -- 10:30 A.M. -- October 20, 1962
The request of Montana State College to stage its annual Homecoming Day
Parade on Main Street and other streets of the City on Saturday, October 20th, at
10:30 A.M. was presented. It was moved by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commis-
sioner Sedivy, that the request be granted and the motion was carried by the follow-
ing Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Morrow
and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting No, none.
Bond &= Contract, S.I.D., No. 424, (Drainage, Schedule No. I)
The contract documents for the construction of the Drainage improvement,
(Schedule No. One), of Special Improvement District No. 424, as awarded to J. W. Merz,
were presented. The contract and bond were approved as to form by the City Attorney
and it was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Morrow, that the
Mayor and the Clerk of the Commission be authorized and directed to sign the contract
I for the City of Bozeman and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote:
those voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Morrow;
those voting No, none.
Reports
The following September, reports were presented:
Water Collector Director of P~blic Service
The City Manager commented on the reports and recommended their approval.
It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by commissioner MorI'ow, that the
reports be approved and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following
Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy and
Commissioner Morrow; those voting No, none.

There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time
it was moved by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the
meeting adjourn. The motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those
