HomeMy WebLinkAboutCemetary Land Packet Materials 02-08-2017ACTION REQUEST TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: Cemetery Board and Community Affordable Housing
Advisory Board (CAHAB)
SUBJECT: Letter of Support from Cemetery Board and
CAHAB: Leasing of Cemetery Land for Affordable
Housing
DATE: January XX, 2017
A subcommittee consisting of two members each from the Cemetery Board and
the Community Affordable Housing Advisory Board (CAHAB) has explored the
mutual benefits that would result from an action by the City to lease Cemetery
land that will not be used by the Cemetery for the foreseeable future so that
affordable housing could be placed on that land. Monies generated from leasing
Cemetery land could be used as a source of revenue for the Cemetery’s
Perpetual Care Fund to offset the cost of maintaining the Cemetery, thereby
benefiting the taxpayers of Bozeman and addressing one of the City’s goals:
38.43.010.A The Bozeman Community Plan establishes a goal to
encourage an adequate supply of affordable housing and land for
affordable housing in Bozeman.
It is the recommendation of the Cemetery Board / CAHAB joint subcommittee
that land located on Highland Boulevard, as shown in the attached document, be
dedicated as land to be leased by the City for Affordable Housing. All monies
generated from the lease of cemetery land would be placed in the Cemetery
Perpetual Care Fund. This proposal has been unanimously endorsed by both
the Cemetery Board and CAHAB.
Respectfully,
Russ Tuckerman, Chair Brian LaMeres Chair
Cemetery Advisory Board CAHAB
