MEMORANDUM
TO: Bozeman Zoning Commission
FROM: Rebecca Owens, Associate Planner
SUBJECT: *CONTINUANCE TO A FUTURE DATE* for Draft Bozeman Design
Manual review and work session
DATE: February 7, 2017
The Bozeman Design Manual will supersede the current Design Objectives Plan for
Entryway Corridors as the City’s standards for design quality in new construction
and improvements to existing properties. The new title, Bozeman Design Manual,
reflects the transition in the document’s applicability and allows it to encompass
both standards and guidelines.
The Manual will be applied citywide as an example-rich resource to promote
implementation of best practice in the community and support departure
opportunities in the proposed Article 5 amendments to the Unified Development
Code (UDC). Guidelines in the Manual will continue to serve as a primary reference
for Administrative Design Review and the Design Review Board. The Manual will
replace the current Bozeman Design Objectives Plan via City Commission resolution
and will become effective upon adoption of the final ordinance adopting the UDC
Phase II update. The UDC and Manual updates must have coordinated timing, as well
as standards and examples, based on their related review criteria and processes.
The City received preliminary drafts of the new Manual from the consultant team
and has determined that the revision status is insufficient for advisory board and
broader public review at this time. Community Development will update the project
website (www.bzndesignstandards.com), noticing, and meeting agendas once the
review schedule is fully amended.
Staff recommends that the Zoning Commission continues the work session scheduled
on February 7, 2017, for review of the draft Bozeman Design Manual, to a future date.
