Weiss - Open LetterFrom: Kate Weiss [kweiss45@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 31, 2017 7:57 AM To: Carson Taylor; Cyndy Andrus; Chris Mehl; I-Ho Pomeroy; Jeff Krauss Subject: Open letter to the Bozeman Community Dear Friends, 30 years ago I lived in Hillsborough, North Carolina, a small town north of Chapel Hill. Today an old friend sent me this statement from the Mayor and commissioners in Hillsborough. I send this example on to you and encourage you to make a similar public statement, if you have not already or are not now working on one (attached below). If I missed such a statement would you please send it to me? I am a psychotherapist here in Bozeman and have been in private practice here and elsewhere for nearly 20 years. Never have I witnessed such community wide distress and anxiety. Most of my clients are in some way dealing with their distress and fear and loss of sleep in their individual therapy sessions. My disabled clients fear for their health care and for the services they depend on. My LGBT and non-white clients fear for their safety. Many hikers and skiers and hunters fear for public lands. This began with the election and has only grown. You cannot solve all these problems but a public statement from our city officials would go a long way to lead this community during these dark times. Please publically let myself and my clients, my neighbors and friends know that in this community we are united and safe in our respect for diversity , our love of public lands and wild places, and our belief in the constitution and democratic process of this country in which we are lucky enough to live! https://www.hillsboroughnc.gov/news-releases/2017/1/30/10120/an-open-letter-to-the-hillsborough- community/ Sincerely, Kate Weiss, LCPC 1078 Meagher Ave Bozeman, MT 59718
