Present were Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher, Commissioner Sedivy, City I~ Manager Cutting, City Attorney Berg, Ass't. City Man~ger Fryslie and tne Clerk. The following proceedings were had: Minu tes of' the last regulp,r session were read and it was moved by Commis- s loner Sed! vy, seconded by Commissioner Staudaher, that the minutes be approved as road and the motion was carried by the fOLlowing Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaherj those voting No, none. Request for Banner Across Main street - "March of Dimes" -- 1/24"27/62 A written request received from the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity to hang a banner sign across Main Street between the Rialto and Ellen theatres during the period, January 24-27, to advertise "Pi Week", a March of Dimes benefit, was placed before the Commission. It was s ta ted tha t the business manager for Bozeman Thea tres, Inc. had agreed to the anchoring of the sign to the two theatres, also, accompanying the reques t was a memorandum jJrepa red by the City Building Inspec tor which stated there would be no objection to the hanging of the sign as long as it I complied with Chapter 14.16 of the Bozeman Municipal Code. This memorandum set forth three variances to the Code. The City Manager recommended the request be granted provided that the proposed sign and its erection comply with the provisions of Chapter 14.16 of the Bozeman Municipal Code. It was moved by Commissioner Staudaner, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the foregoing request be granted as recommended by the City Manager and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner staudaher and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting No, none. Civil Defense Meeting -- Li vin;"s ton (1/D/52) The City Manager placed before the Commission correspondence received from botn the State director and the Cmmt;y director of Civil Defense which stated arrangements have been made for a meeting in Livingston, January 9 th, to brief local government officiaLS on how the currentLY proposed shelter area survey pro- gram is to be accomplished. The City Manager emphasized that the defense program .- is of vital importance and requested that the members of the City Commission and four staff members of the City be authorized to. attend the meeting. 'l'he motion was carried by the fOLlowing Aye and No vote: those vo tlng Aye being Mayor ~wanson, Commissioner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaherj those vo ting No, none. 25 Civic Achievement Citation -- Bozeman Municipal Code A civic citation received from the Book Publishing Company commending the Ci ty for its publica tion of the new Bozeman Municipal Code VIaS presented. The Commission directed tha t a letter be sent to Book Publishing Company expressing :-1 appreciation and accep~ance of the citation. Reports The fOlloWing reports were placed before the Commission: Disposal Plant Uperator Building Inspector (Annual) Sanitarian Police Judge 8u i1ding Ins pe c tor Cnief of Police Fire Chief Librarian The City Manager, comMenting that the City Building Inspector's report indica ~ed a decline in building cons true tlon wi thin the 01 ~Y' in the approxima te amount of $10,000 for 1961, when compared with a lil{e total for 1~6u, recommended that the reports be approved. It was moved by Commissioner Staudaher, seconded by Comrrlissioner Sedivy, that the reports be approved and filed and the motion was carried by the fOllowing Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Staudaher and Commissioner Sedivy; those voting No, none. After examination of the claims and checking against the claim reelster, it was moved by Commissioner Sed.!.vy, seconded by Com- missioner Staudaher, trm tall claims be a pproved and the motion wus carried by the fOLlowing Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissloner Sedivy and Commissioner Staudaher; those vo ting No, none. Jaycees Fla~ Postin~ -- Brackets on Parking Meter Posts During the Commission meeting held October 18th, 1961, the Comr.~ission denied, because of the inadvisability of bracketing any item to the City parking meter I posts, a request submitted by the local Jaycees proposing a plan for displaying American flags on Main Street on holidays and other appropriate days. Jack La"iJrie with a delegation of the Jaycees appeared before the Commission to Gbsin discuss in detail the proposed plan and it was agreed that the .Taycees should first contact the merchants to be involved in rega I'd to the matter before further action is takenj however, aLl members of the Commission and the City Manager reiterated the t they are u lwa ys in favor of encoura~lng the disp~~y of ~ne American flag at 26 all appropriate times.
