COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 3838
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN.
MONTANA. SUPPORTING THE $20.000.000 GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND
PROPOSED BY THE GALLATIN COUNTY COMMISSION TO FUND THE
ACQUISITION. DESIGN. CONSTRUCTION. EQUIPPING AND FINANCING OF AN
ADULT DETENTION FACILITY ON PROPERTY OWNED BY GALLATIN COUNTY
AT THE LAW AND JUSTICE CENTER SITE.
WHEREAS. in 1982, the City of Bozeman entered into an agreement with Gallatin County under
which the Detention Center provides jail facilities for prisoner services for arrests made by the Bozeman
Police Department and sentenced by the Municipal Judge; and
WHEREAS. numerous studies have revealed the need to update and expand Gallatin County's
detention facilities; and
WHEREAS. the lack of adequate detention facilities has resulted in a decline in the ability to
provide for the safety of the community; and
WHEREAS. the studies further reveal the safety of those employees within the law enforcement
system as well as the inmates is compromised in the existing Detention Center; and
WHEREAS. the Gallatin County Commission has placed on a mail ballot the proposition for a
$20,000,000 bond to fund the construction of a new detention center.
NOW. THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Bozeman,
Montana, that it support the proposition to "issue and sell general obligation bonds of Gallatin County in
the amount of up to $20,000,000 to be payable during a period of 20 years from the date of issuance,
the proceeds of such bonds to be used to fund the acquisition, design, construction, equipping and
financing of an adult detention facility on property owned by Gallatin County at the Law and Justice
Center site in Bozeman."
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Commission of City of Bozeman, Montana, at a
regular session thereof held on the 22nd day of August 20
