Cemetery Advisory Board AppointmentsCommission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Pearl Michalson, Deputy City Clerk Robin Crough, City Clerk SUBJECT: Appointments to the Cemetery Advisory Board MEETING DATE: January 23, 2017 AGENDA TYPE: Action RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move to appoint three applicants to the Cemetery Advisory Board with updated terms of December 31, 2019. BACKGROUND: We currently have three vacancies on the Cemetery Board with terms that expired on December 31, 2016. We have three applicants. According to Bozeman Municipal Code Section 2.05.660 – Composition. There is created a cemetery board consisting of seven members to be appointed by the City Commission for three year staggered terms. Should a vacancy occur on the board, the city commission shall appoint a new member to complete the term of appointment so vacated. A majority of the members shall be residents of the City, and whenever practicable one member shall be a representative of an active recognized veteran’s group. Section 2.05.670. – Organization. The cemetery board shall serve as an advisory board to both the city commission and city administration and, as such, shall be charged with making such investigation and recommendations as requested or deemed necessary for the operation of the cemetery and as required in this division. This knowledge and expertise has allowed me to be both a leader and team player, as the situation dictates. I have lived in Bozeman for almost 10 years and take pride in my community. I have benefited from the many relationships I have formed over the past decade and would like to take this opportunity to give back to this great place. The Cemetery, specifically, is a central part of Bozeman and deserves the time and resources necessary to keep its prominence in the hearts and minds of this community.
