HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970-05-13 4,95 Bozeman, Montana 13 May 1970 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, Municipal Building, 13 May 1970, at 1:00 o'clock p.m. Present were Mayor Langohr, Commissioner Morrow, Commissioner Sedivy, City Manager Fryslie, Ass't. City Manager Keyes, Acting City Attorney O'Connell and the Clerk. I Commissioner Sedivy opened the meeting with a prayer and the following proceedings were had: Minutes of the Regular session held 6 May 1970 were read and it was moved by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Morrow, Commissioner Sedivy and Mayor Langohrj those voting No, none. Refuse Disposal District - Resolution of Intention: A resolution of intention adopted 8 May 1970 by the Board of County Commissioners of lallatin County declaring its intention to create a Refuse Disposal District encompassing the City of Bozeman was,: presented . It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Morrow. that the Re- solution be concurred in by the City of Bozeman and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Morrow and Bayor Langohrj those voting No, none. proclamation - Realtor Week, 17-23 May 1970: Mayor Langohr announced his proclamation of 17-23 May 1970, as "Realtors Week" and asked all citizens to join in honoring the Realtors of this community. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, I seconded by Commissioner Morrow, that the proclamation as requested by Realtors Paul Dudley and Herbert Pace be endorsed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Morrow and Mayor Langohr; those voting No, none. Mr. Dudley and Mr. Pace also presented Mayor Langohr with two copies of a book entitled "Under .11 is the Land" for the City Library. Mr. Darvin Schweitzer - Phi Sigma Kappa, 410 W. Garfield Street - regarding Parking: Mr. Darvin Schweitzer of the Phi Sigma Kappa appeared before the Commission to inquire as to the length of the red paint on the curb in front of their fraternity house located at 410 West Garfield Street. The Commission informed Mr. Schweitzer that the reason the curb is painted red is to prevent parking in that area so as not to obstruct the vision of on-coming traffic on the inter- secting street. The length of the painted area will have to be investigated. Report of State Library Convention - Great Falls, 7-9 May 1970, Mrs. Molly Pratt, Ass't. Librarian: Assistant City Librarian Molly Pratt gave an extyensive report on her attendance at the Mont- ana Library Convention held in Great Falls, 7-9 May 1970. It was moved by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that Mrs. Pratt's report be accepted and that she be commended on the completeness of her report and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those I voting Aye being Commissioner Morrow, C01lllli8sioner Sedivy and Mayor Langohrj those voting No, none. Report of Fire Command School. Fire Chief Jack Huber - 12-16 April, 1970, Yakima, Washington: Fire ehief Huber reported on his attendance at the Fireman's Command School conducted at Yak- ima, Washington, 12-16 April 1970. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Morrow, that the report be approved and that Fire Chief Huber be commended on the excellent manner in which the report was presented and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: Those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy, Coamissioner Morrow and Mayor Lan80hrj those voting No, none. 496 License Bond for Approval: - Billings Neon Sign Erection: In compliance with Chapter 14 of the Bozeman Municipal Code, the Sign Bond of Billings Neon Was presented. The City Manager stated the Building Inspector had recommended the approval of the bond and the City Attorney had approved the bond as to form. It was moved by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the bond be approved and the motion was carried by the follow- ing Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Morrow, Commissioner Sedivy and Mayor I Langohr; those voting No, none. Claims for April (Continued). Elaim No's. 7577 thru 7581 inclusive were presented on the various funds as follows: P. L. & P. $ 18,500.00 New Sewer Const.13l,190.36 $ 149,690.36 The City Manager checked the claims and found them to be true and lawful claims against the City of Bozeman and recommended they be approved and the Director of Finance be directed to issue warrants in payment. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by CommisSioner Morrow, that the claims be approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Morrow and Mayor Langohr; those voting No, none. Development of Old City Hall Site: Soroptimist Club: A letter received from the Soroptimist Club of Bozeman advising the City of Bozeman that they had voted $1,000.00 as their initial monetary contribution to be used in the development of a City Park on Main Street at the site of the Old City Hall was presented. Following a discussion, it was moved by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the Commission approve the efforts of the Soroptimist Club and thaak them for their contri- I bution toward this project and that the landscaping of this area will commence as soon as possible. . The motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Morrow, CommisSioner Sedivy and Mayor Langohr; those voting No, none. Reports for April: The following reports were presented for April: Cemetery Cashier Police Chief Water Collector The City Manager commented on the reports and recommended their approval. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Morrow, that the reports be approved and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commiss- ioner Sedivy, Commissioner Morrow and Mayor Langohr; those voting No, none. Municipal Band ProRram and Director: The City Municipal Band elected Mr. William Long, Bozeman Junior High School Band Director, as Director of the Bozeman Municipal Band for the 1970 season, the term covering a period of one year ending in April 1971. Following a discussion, it was moved by commissioner Morrow, seconded by CommiSSioner Sedivy, that the Commission approve the election of Mr. Long as Band Director and that they also approve the concert schedule as outlined and the motion was carried by the follow- I ing ,Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being C~issioneer Morrow, Commissioner Sedivy and Kayor Langohr: those voting No, none.
