HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-07-24 I 1 1 Bozeman, Montana 2!t July 1968 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday, 24 July 1968, at 1:00 o'clock p.m. Present were Mayor Morrow, Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Langohr, City Manager Cutting, Ass't City Manager Fryslie, City Attorney Betgand the Clerk. Mayor Morrow, opened the meeting with a prayer and the following proceedings were had: Minutes of the regular meeting held 17 July 1968 were read and it was moved by Commissioner Langohr, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Langohr, Commissioner Sedivy and Mayor MOrrow; those voting no, none. Reques~to .Excc:ed Sign Height - Gulf Oil Station - North Seventh Avenue - to 56 feet: A letter received from Mr. R. W. Hagmeyer, State Manager of the Gulf Oil Corporation requesting a variance in the height restrictions for a high rise sign to be erected at their new service station on North Seventh Avenue at West Oa Street was presented. Mr. Hagmeyer also appeared before the Commission to discuss the erection of the Fifty-six foot highrise sign. Following a thorough discussion of the request and in concurrence with the recommendation of the City Manager, it was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Langohr, that the overall height of the subject sign not to exceed 56 feet be approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Langohr and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, none. Authori ty to Purchase 350 cy. yds. 1/2" Crushed Gravel for S tree ts - ~x. $950~O :_ The Street Department has need for a supply of crushed gravel for use in its program on various streets within the City. The City Manager requested the authority to purchase 350 cubic yards one- half inch crushed gravel at an approximate cost of $950.00. It was moved by Commissioner Langohr, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the purchase of crushed gravel as requested be approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Langohr, Commissioner Sedivy and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, none. AUE!2rity tel Purchase Coin Counter & Packager Approximately $ 725.00 - Parking Heter: The City Manager reported that it would be desirable to purchase a new Brandt Electric Coin Counter and Packager Model No. 740 for the Parking Meter Department in the approximate amount of $725.00 with a trade in of the present obsolete machine. C., 13-16 August, and the City Manager recommended that Miss Margaret Hileman, City Librarian be authorized to attend the conference and, it being in the public interest, her expenses be paid fronl the Library fund. It was moved by Commissioner Langohr, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that this attendance be authorized as recommended and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Langohr, Commissioner Sedivy and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, none. 229 ZEZ 230 Contract Documents - 1968 Sidewalks & Curbs - H. Howells' awarded 10 July 1968 for the construction of Miscellaneous Walks and Curbs within the City of Bozeman for the year 1968 was presented. The bond and contract were approved as to form by the City Attorney and the City Manager reported that the City had evidence the contractor is adequately insured and recommended that the doct~ents be approved. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Langohr, that the contract be so approved as presented and the Mayor and the Clerk of the Commission be authorized and directed to sign the contract for the City and that W. D. Howells be authorized to proceed with the construction of Miscellaneous Walks and Curbs. The motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Langohr and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, none. License Bond .. Electrical, Bairs Electric, Inc., - Livingston: In Compliance with Chapter 16 of the Bozeman Municipal Code, the Electrical Bond of Bair's Electric, Inc., Livingston, was presented. The City Manager stated the Building Inspector had recommended the approval of the bond and the City Attorney had approved the bond as to form. It was moved by Commissioner Langohr, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the promotion of the three firemen to Captain be approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Langohr, Commissioner Sedivy and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, none. It was moved by Comm- issioner Langohr, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that this proclamation of the Mayor be endorsed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Conlmissioner Langohr, Commissioner Sedivy and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, being None. Propo.sei_Paving of [)_uX.s tC?.l~_~~_~~ from Seventh L\v~E~~ to~~~leventh L\venue; The City Commission initiated a discussion as to what means can be found to accomplish the paving of Durston Road from Seventh Avenue to Eleventh Avenue, an improvement badly needed in the public interest for many years. Following a review of the status of this section of Durston Road, it was again revealed that lack of dedication of the north half of the street might prevent the establishment of a special improvement district for paving and no other funds are available for such construction. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Langohr, that the City Manager and the City Attorney be instructed to determine what steps are necessary to clear up the question of Right-of-Way on this road and provide a legal position for setting up a paving special improvement district. The City Manager was also instructed to direct a letter to the High- way Department requesting that they again make a traffic survey of the Durston Road - North Seven- th Avenue intersection in the hope that there will now be found enough traffic to justify the in- stallation of Traffic lights.
