Mistretta - Bozeman TaproomFrom:Katy Mistretta To:Agenda Subject:Taproom comments Date:Thursday, December 15, 2016 4:24:35 AM Dear City Commissioners and School Board Trustees, I am writing in regard to the request from the Taproom bar to modify their conditional use permit in order to allow a full beverage license. I will not be able to attend the City Commission meeting on December 19th and so my hope is that this email will suffice. As the parent of a child attending Hawthorne school, I am concerned about the impact of a bar serving hard alcohol during school hours across the street from my child's school. I expect the Bozeman School District and City Commissioners to provide a safe learning environment for my child, and allowing the Taproom to serve hard alcohol will be at the expense of our children. Since the Taproom has opened, we have already experienced an increase in parking issues, as the parking spots that were once used to pick up our children from school, are now being used by the bar patrons. Furthermore, I am concerned about bar patrons leaving the Taproom after having "one too many drinks" and then driving down Rouse street, where there is often a steady flow of children crossing. As a parent, I would feel uncomfortable allowing my child to walk home alone, knowing that there is a bar directly across the street that had been serving alcohol to patrons starting at 11am. Allowing a bar to serve hard alcohol during school hours within 100 feet and highly visible from classroom windows is unacceptable. Please deny the Taproom's request to the City for a conditional use permit for a full beverage license. Granting such a permit clearly is not in the best interest of the children or the Bozeman community.
