Dear Commissioners:
I'm writing to show my support for a YES vote by the City allowing the Bozeman Taproom to have
an All Beverage License. There are already a dozen establishments serving alcohol within a block
of the school and there has been no harm to date. Due to the Taproom's support of a family
atmosphere I don't feel that the addition of spirits will have any negative impact on the
neighborhood. In fact, it is a wonderful place to bring my entire family including my two year old
daughter. I know all the owners personally and have great confidence in them insuring that their
business places the community and its members first when conducting operations. Mr. Gallinger
is a family man and has children as well. Our children have enjoyed the family friendly
environment within the taproom together. The change from a beer and wine license to a full
beverage license is inconsequential in accordance with the law and with its effect on the
community. As this commission is well aware these issues were legally addressed and decided
once the Commissioners granted their original request for their CUP. In fact, as I recall they
considered the fact that the Taproom would serve all types of alcoholic beverages at that time.
These fine business owners have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars renovating this location
based upon the fact that they would be serving all types of alcoholic beverages. They are locals
and understand what the Bozeman community stands for, and desire to not only run a successful
business but protect the community which they all know and love. I would be hard pressed to find
another individual such as Erin Gallinger that has the same integrity, values, morals, and ideals
within this community. The impact, through my experience of practicing in the area of Liquor
Laws, is minimal at best. The “type” of alcoholic beverages sold does not change the
environment the Taproom has created already or the impact on the neighborhood. The current
environment as well as the future environment of the Taproom will not change. It is considered a
high class social gathering establishment. If the commission were to deny this request it would
ultimately open the flood gates to all the other establishments serving any type of alcoholic
beverages in Bozeman City for reconsideration. This would not only affect the several businesses
in town but the overall spirit of the Bozeman Downtown area. I think the commission would agree
that this fine establishment is in no way a hindrance on the morals and values of this community.
In fact, if visiting the location I believe you would all find that the Taproom is a quiet, social
gathering place for family and friends regardless of what “type” of alcoholic beverages are
served. Please vote “yes” on allowing a business, that considers community first, to continuing
showing that they are the type of business Bozeman needs.
Respectfully, Rhett Nemelka
