HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-01-17 I I I Bozeman, Montana 17 January 1968 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday, 17 January 1968, at 1:00 o'clock p.m. Present were Mayor Morrow, Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Langohr, City Manager Cutting, Ass't City Manager Fryslie, City Attorney Berg and the Clerk. Mayor Morrow opened the meeting with a prayer and the following proceedings were had: Minutes of the regular session held 10 January 1968, were read and it was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Langohr, that the minutes be approved as corrected and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Langohr and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, none. Authority t? Attend Montana Fire Chief's Mid-Winter Conference: 27-28 January, 1968: A letter received from Jack Huber, Fire Chief reporting that the Montana Fire Chief's Mid- Winter Conference will be held in Great Falls, on the 27-28 January 1968 was presented. In con- currence with the Fire Chief's request and the recommendation of the City Manager, it was moved by Commissioner Langohr, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that Fire Chief Huber and Ass' t Fire Chief Hoey be authorized to attend the school and, it being in the public interest, their expenses be paid from the General Fund and the Motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Langohr, Commissioner Sedivy and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, none. Consideration of Plat: Re-arrangement of Block 4, Kirk's 2nd. Subdivision Kir~ood Baptist ~hurd!: A letter from the Bozeman City-County Planning Board addressed to the City Commission was presented transmitting a plat entitled REARRANGEMENT OF BLOCK 4 KIRK SECOND SUBDIVISION prepared on behalf of the Kirkwood Baptist Church, and recommending the plat's approval. Following a discussion of the REARRANGEMENT OF BLOCK 4 KIRK SECOND SUBDIVISION plat and in concurrence with the recommendation of th~ City Manager, it was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Langohr, that the plat be approved as recommended by the City-County Planning Board, and that the City Manager be authorized and directed to sign the plat as the Director of Public Ser- vice and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Langohr and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, none. Proclamation of Jaycee Week: - 21-27 January 1968: The Junior Chamber of Commerce asked that Mayor Morrow proclaim the week of January 21 to January 27, 1968, as Junior Chamber of Commerce Week. In concurrence with their wishes, Mayor Morrow reported he had issued the requested proclamation urging all citizens of our community to give full consideration to the future services of the Bozeman Jaycees. It was moved by Commissioner Langohr, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the Mayor's Proclamation be approved and endorsed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Langohr, Commissioner Sedivy and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, none. Request for Annexation of contiguous M.S.U. Property: 11th & Lincoln West of 19th Ave. on Lincoln: A discussion was held on Annexation of approximately 400 acres of Montana State University property lying west and south of contiguous to the present City limits. Martin Whalen, Montana State University Physical Plant Superintendent was also present to request consideration of the annexation primarily to immediately obtain fire protection and police patrolling of the extensive :141 :142 building facilities in the area and to explain that ultimate plans call for extending the City utilities to the area. It was pointed out that the lack of water supply and long distance the trucks have to travel from the downtown fire station to the site would affect the amount of fire protection which can be provided, but the Fire Department would extend fire protection to the area to the best of its ability and within the limitations of force and equipment. In concurrence with the recommendation of the City Manager, it was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Langohr, that the City Attorney be instructed to draft appropriate resolutions to initiate action on the requested annexations and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Langohr and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, none. ~ication of Right-of-Hay Easements to the State Land Board: An application to the State Land Board for Right-of-Way Easements for a storm sewer and other utilities installation and maintenance on Grant Street between South Sixth and South Seventh Avenue and Right-of-Way Easement for construction and maintenance of watermains, sanitary sewers and streets on Kagy Boulevard and Seventh Avenue South extending southerly was presented. The City Manager recommended that the City submit the easement applications and it was moved by Commissioner Langohr. seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that these applications for the Right-of-Way Easement Agreements be entered into by the City and the Mayor and the Clerk of the City Commission be authorized and directed to sign for the City and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Langohr, Commissioner Sedivy and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, none. Reports: "Continued": The following reports were presented: Cashier City Engineer 1966-1967 Police Chief - 1967 Industrial Accidents - 1967 The City Manager commented on the reports and recommended their approval. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Langohr, that the reports be approved and ordered filed and that the respective departments be commended on their very thorough reports. The motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy, Comm- issioner Langohr and Mayor Morrow; those voting No, none.
