I'm writing to comment on the above subject matter. I am opposed to the Taproom's request for an all-liquor license, for the following reasons. I support the Taproom business and don't have a problem with its proximity to Hawthorne School. I think it is does a pretty good business in its current capacity. The business hoursunder the permit may conflict somewhat with school sessions but it could be a lot worse if it received an all-liquor license. I don't agree with having a full service bar, and the hourstypically kept by them, right across the street from the school. I do have a problem with the additional hours and the increased risk of drunk drivers in the area around the school. Limiting the amount of beer and wine as occurs now curtails this to adegree. Changing the rules to allow "unlimited" alcohol consumption is asking for trouble and really does set a bad example. Not to mention the impacts to the area from inebriated barpatrons which is typically experienced in the proximity of other bars in the downtown area. If this was in the business plan all along some people may have been misled. If this is an afterthought I don't think it was thought out completely. For one, the business name would bemisleading. Clearly, the financial outlay for an all-liquor license is substantial and if they can afford that then the business is doing quite well. I would question the owners' decision to takeon more debt, if in fact that's what they are doing. I realize that is the owners' perrogative and I'm not anti-business but it should remain as a beer and wine establishment. Please do not approve the requested permit. Thank you. Crowell Herrick401 N.
