To whom it may concern,
I was reminded just how concerned I am with the approval of a liquor license for the Taproom after I read
this plea for support online:
"I'm writing to show my support for a YES vote by the City allowing the Bozeman Taproom to have
an All-Beverage License. There are already a dozen establishments serving alcohol within a block
of the school and there has been no harm to date. Due to the Taproom's support of a family
atmosphere I don't feel that the addition of spirits will have any negative impact on the
neighborhood."
Please take a moment to read that plea carefully.
Regardless that the front door is located on Mendenhall (a sad and deceitful circumvention, I'll add), the
Taproom IS directly across the street from Hawthorne elementary school. The outdoor seating faces the
school as do two very large windows. As a long-time downtown resident of Bozeman, it is extremely
concerning that this was allowed in the first place. Hopefully, if you read the quote carefully, you also
picked up the point that "a dozen establishments serving alcohol within a block of the school (Hawthorne)
and there has been no harm to date." No harm to date. That is an insensitive and selfish rationale for
allowing their wish for an all-beverage license. Additionally, establishments serving beer only may allow
minors but bars absolutely do not. While the Taproom may support "a family atmosphere," it's deceitful to
suggest, as a bar, they will have a "family atmosphere." The post quoted above shows that the Taproom
realizes that being across from an elementary school is of great concern and illustrates that the Taproom
is in fact using the elementary school to sell the public in support of an all-beverage license. That is
disgraceful.
Please, this town most certainly does not need a bar across from an elementary school.
Do the moral thing and vote NO.
