The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall
Building, Wednesday. 15 November. 1967, at 1:00 o'clock p.m. Present were Mayor Sedivy. Commiss ioner
Morrow. Commissioner Langohr, City Manager Cutting. Ass't City Manager Fryslie, Acting City Attorney
I Angel and the Clerk.
Commissioner Langohr opened the meeting with a prayer and the following proceedings were had:
Minutes of the regular session held 8 November, 1967, were read and it was moved by Commissioner
Mo rrow . seconded by Commissioner Langohr, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Morrow, Commissioner
Langohr and Mayor Sedivy; those voting NOt none.
Rcqucs t to Exceed 40' Maximum Ground Sign Height: Chevron Oil North Seventh Ave. at Oak Street:

Mr. G. A. Hopkins, Great Falls representative for the Chevron Oil Company appeared before the
Commission to further discuss the installation of a Chevron sign at its service station now under
construction on North Seventh Avenue at Oak Street. The sign proposed is to be mounted on two posts
with horizontal wording that is seven feet high and forty-five feet wide and with a maximum height
of fifty feet above the station grade. The City Manager again recommended that this request to
exceed the forty-foot maximum height of ground signs provided by the Bozeman Municipal Code be
denied. but also that he would not object if the Commission wished to consider other factors existing
at this site.
Following a thorough discussion of the proposed installation, it was moved by Commissioner
I Langohr, seconded by Commissioner MorroW. that the request of the Chevron Oil Company to install the
subject ChE-vron Sign to a maximum height of fifty feet from the grade level of the station to the
top of the sign be approved and that this action is not to be construed as a precedent in consideration
of future requests and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No votes: those voting Aye
being Commissioner Langohr, Commissioner Morrow and Mayor Sedivy; those voting No, none.

A request for the Montana State University Fangs and Spurs to conduct a toy drive during the
week of 13-18 November was presented. It was moved by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commissioner
Langohr, that the project be approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote:
those voting Aye being Commissioner MorroW, Commissioner Langohr and Mayor Sedivy; those voting No,
none.

The certificate of the City Engineer stating the construction of the Chain Line Fence Project
at the South Reservoir as per their contract had been completed in accordance with the plans and
specifi':ations was presented. The City Manager concurred in the recommendation of the City Engineer
and recommended that the project be accepted and final payment in the amount of $5,838.05 be made.
I It was moved by Commissioner Langohr, seconded by Commissioner Morrow. that the Chain Link Fence
Project as presented be accepted as completed and the final payment be approved and the Direc tor
of Finance be directed to issue a warrant in payment thereof and the motion was carried by the
following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Langohr. Commissioner Morrow and

The City Manager commented on the reports and recommended their approval. It was moved by

It 'vas reported that&t: a meeting of Montana Police Chiefs Association/held in Butte. Tuesday,
14 November, 1967, and in addition to other business transacted, Police Chief Cutting was elected
to the Montana Law Enforcement Academy Board. It was moved by Commissioner Langohr, seconded by
Commissioner Morrow, that Police Chief Cutting be congratulated on his appointment to the Board
and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner
Horrow, Commissioner Langohr and llayor Sedivy; those voting No, none.

It was moved by Commissioner Morrow. seconded by Commissioner Langohr, that a letter of thanks
be addressed to the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity expressing the appreciation of the Commission for
the very find civic activity performed by [our members of their organization for their. efforts in
assisting at the Municipal Building Facilities on Saturday. 11 November, 1967, and the motion ,vas
carried hy the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Morrow, Commissioner
Lan[;ohr and Mayor Sedivy; those voting No, none.

It was reported by the Director of Finance that approximately $35.000.00 in Water Funds and
$35,000.00 in Miscellaneous funds will be available for reinvestment and in concurrence with the
recommendation of the City Manager, it was moved by Commissioner Langohr, seconded by Commissioner I
Morrow. that the investment of these funds in :ertificates of Deposit be approved and the motion
was car.ried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye heing Commissioner Langohr, Comm-
issioner Mor.row and Mayor Sedivy; those voting No, none.

The City f!8nager requested that a Special meeting of the City Commission be scheduled for
7:30 p.m. 30 November, 1967. in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, for the purpose of ex-
plaining the proposed Interstate Highway Construction east of Bozeman as it pertains to Bozeman's
City property and stated that it being highly desirable a request was being made for the Park
Board and the Cemetery Board to meet jointly with the City Commission on this occasion. It was
moved by Commissioner Morrow, seconded by Commissioner Langohr. that the Special Meeting be sche-
duled for 30 November, 1967. and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those
voting Aye being Connnissioner Morrow. Commissioner Langohr and Mayor Sedivy; those voting No, none.

City Manager Cutting reported on his attendance at the 53rd Annual Conference of International
City Managers held in New Orleans 8-12 October. 1967. He gave a very complete resume of the {"on-
ference and remarked that there were some excellent speakers presenting information in regard to
current problems of the Cities. It was moved by Commissioner Langohr, seconded by Commissioner
Morrow, that City Manager Cutting be highly commended for bringing information to the Commission
and on the exee lIen t manner in which this report was presented and tha tit be accepted and approved I
and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner
Langohr, Commissioner Morrow and Mayor Sedivy; those voting No, none.
