Subject:Taproom Full Liquor License Application
Date:Thursday, December 08, 2016 2:36:46 PM
Dear City Commissioners,
I have learned that the Taproom, located across from Hawthorne
School, is applying for a permit for a full liquor license. As a parent of
a student at Hawthorne, I hope you will consider denying this request.
As it stands currently, many parents are already concerned about a
drinking establishment being across the street from an elementary
school. Patrons can be seen from classrooms, consuming alcohol not
only from the rooftop, but also on the patio during school
hours. Why were there no special restrictions for having a bar across
the street from a school? For example, the rooftop and patio should only
be open outside of school hours, there should be tinted windows that
face the school, & there should be no beer signs that face the school,
etc..
Allowing hard alcohol consumption could increase the risk of an
unfortunate incident happening. There is a significant difference
between a patron drinking a beer or a glass of wine compared to patrons
taking shots. The latter usually is done to ensure intoxication. Please
don't wait until something bad happens, to come to the realization that
special restrictions should be in place for this establishment;
especially considering its location.
Thank you for considering the children of Hawthorne school.
Sincerely,
Jennie Holton
