Rugheimer - Bozeman TaproomFrom:Hallie Rugheimer To:trustees@bsd7.org; Agenda Cc:Brenda Cooper; Hallie Rugheimer Subject:No Taproom liquor service 600 ft. from school. Date:Thursday, December 08, 2016 2:38:18 PM Dear City Commissioners and Trustees of Bozeman School District, Hello from a parent whose elementary school children at one time attended Hawthorne School and I was a volunteer in the school. The world has changed as we now know it. I consider the protection of children and the environment in which they go to school very seriously. Speeding school buses, slaughter by armed men with guns, polluted environmental conditions making populations ill and the other tragedies of our current world means we no longer live in a completely safe world. Now in Bozeman there is a restaurant/beer establishment with an already granted wine and beer license Bozeman City Commission granted even though the establishment circumvented the protective laws for children when the retail license for wine and beer was issued to the Taproom business. It was permitted even though the building itself is within 600 ft of a school building. Change of the address from Rouse to Mendenhall does not change the fact that Taproom is within 600 ft of Hawthorne School. Rouse is part of our State Minor Arterial road Highway 86, which has corner pedestrian crossings across that Highway and utilizes crossing guards for 9 months of the year, thank goodness for volunteers. Bozeman City Commissioners and Trustees of BSD please reconsider. Don’t make the same mistake twice. You have the authority to deny Taproom’s application for a conditional use permit for a full liquor license. You have a growing population of people with children to consider even as they move into the new construction at Hawthorne School next spring. As they say in real estate, location, location, location. Be considerate, say please, play nice, but say “sorry not here" to the permit for a full liquor license. Hallie Rugheimer, Bozeman resident for 42 years.
