There are already a dozen establishments serving alcohol within a block of the school and there has been no harm to date and due to the Taproom's support of a family atmosphere I don't feel that the addition of spirits will have any negative impact on the neighborhood. I am a fellow employee at the Bozeman Taproom, as well as a resident and employee of the City of Bozeman. I work for Parks and Recreation, with young kids of the community, some who attend Hawthorne Elementary School. I have never once seen a problem with having the Bozeman Taproom across from the school. I have even spoke to a couple of teachers (one being a close friend), who has said she loves having the taproom across the street, so she can grab a beverage with some friends, after a long day at school! Since working at the Bozeman Taproom, I have developed a very good relationship with the owners, other employees, and customers of the taproom. I find the establishment to be very professional and not your typical bar scene. The interior is modern, clean, and well maintained. You can definitely see the owner's passion in the way it is so well taken care of. We do not have loud music, games (like pool, shuffleboard, etc), or a big dance floor, where people feel like they can "party" the entire night. Individuals come to enjoy a tasty beverage, spend time with their friends, and continue onto the "party" bars later on in the evening (we typically slow down on a weekend night right around midnight). When I help close down the taproom, the latest I have been there is 1am. It is not a bar where people sit and drink until 2am. It is also very nice to work at a bar that is SO KID FRIENDLY. Eric Cade has made sure that we have a kids menu, coloring books, and small water glasses for any kids that are sitting with their parents. If the Bozeman Taproom receives permission to serve liquor, I know (especially as a server) that all bartenders, servers, owners, and managers will be responsible with this license. We are a professional establishment that will not let anything get out of hand. A 12 oz can of beer, 5 oz glass of wine, and 1.5 oz shot of liquor is the exact same amount of liquor that an individual is consuming, which we watch closely. If anything is getting out of hand, we always drop waters off at the table, cut off their drinking, or give them a basket of fries to balance out the alcohol content. The customers safety is always first. We care about each person that comes into the taproom. Having liquor would help us increase sales and become a even more successful business. Craft beer is first and foremost, but it would be very nice to have another option to offer customers. Not everyone likes beer and wine (I've been asked on multiple occasions for a gin and tonic or a tequilla and soda, always declining their request) and I would hope (as a server) that I could meet everyone's needs and desires when they come into the taproom. I hope you will consider approving the license. Again, I am so happy to have such a great team of managers and owners that support me and are respectful of their employees. I promise they will be responsible with this license! Thank you.
