I am a parent of a Hawthorne School student. I understand that The Taproom is requesting a
conditional use permit for their business. I also understand that there are several bars and restaurants within a block of the school.
When reviewing the request I would ask for the following considerations given the direct line of
sight the Taproom has with the school.
1. The roof top bar does not open during school hours (8:00am-4:00pm). This would allow
happy hour and evenings during the school year, all weekend hours and all summer hours.
2. The windows / street treatment on the east side of the Taproom have visual shields that limit
direct sight. These treatments should be tasteful and in keeping with the Taproom’s decor.
I would also advise the city to consider new zoning layers and standards in their future planning
updates that can address compatible uses.
