The BSS is being addressed by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) under the authority of the state Superfund law, CECRA. In August 2011, DEQ issued the Record of Decision(ROD) which selected the final remedy to clean up ground- water, saturated soils, and soil vapors contaminated with PCE and other chemicals. The final remedy included land use controls, a controlled groundwater area(CGWA), sub-slab soil vapor extraction(SVE), enhanced bioremediation(EB) for saturated soils and groundwater, monitored natural attenuation for groundwater, and connection to city water and new or deeper replacement wells for impacted drinking water wells. The City of Bozeman and CVS Pharmacy are responsible for the cleanup of the BSS. Since the last update(June 2015)the following activities have occurred at the BSS: • Second EB injection, which has greatly reduced contaminants near the source area(see figure on back). • Connection of horizontal SVE wells to equipment sheds, and operation of both sets of horizontal wells. • Continued operation and monitoring(O&M) of the horizontal SVE system to capture and treat vapors during EB. • Continued groundwater monitoring.
