Subject: Olive & Black project
City Commissioners,
I am writing to voice my support for the project that is under
consideration at SE corner of Olive Street and Black Avenue in Bozeman. I
am a long-time resident of Bozeman and I am a believer in the downtown
plan. The corner is in the B3 district, it meets code and it can help bring
energy downtown.
My wife and I live near the library, just off East Main. We walk or ride
bikes just about everywhere we go. We ride to the mall, we walk to Heeb's.
We ride to MSU, we walk to downtown restaurants. We ride to the museum, we
walk to the Ridge Downtown. We ride to the Co-op, we walk to Burke Park.
And if the weather doesn't cooperate, we not shy of walking to the museum,
the co-op or MSU. While I wish riding a bike was safer in Bozeman, my point
is that someone living at Black and Olive would probably have similar
methods of transportation as we do.
Even in the days before retirement I rode my bike (MSU, VLC) or walked (Al
Stiff Building, old Chronicle building, J&H Office Equipment).
While there would be challenges, the car-sharing idea presented in the
project just might be the wave of the future. My wife and I certainly have
a car that sits more than it gets used. Just about the only time we drive
is to go out of town, otherwise it's some sort of self-propelled form of
transportation.
I say, Allow the project to happen.
Thanks for being such a great group of civic leaders. Bozeman continues to
be a special place because you guys work hard to keep it that way. This
project, I believe, will only enhance the greatness of Bozeman.
Sincerely,
Paul Burns
