Message: There is increased cut-through/non-local traffic on the 400/500 block of N. 18th Avenue by
vehicles traveling at unsafe speeds (estimated 30-40mph). This issue is present in both directions. I
believe this problem has gotten worse since the Beall/19th and Durston/19th traffic light timings have
been changed. We are a residential street with a fair amount of pedestrian and bicycle use. The
aggressive non-resident traffic is an increasing concern. On a related note, the timing on the east/west
pedestrian crossing of N. 19th Ave along Beall is nearly inadequate. Even an able bodied pedestrian has
to jog or hustle to make it across. the same is true for crossing of Main St. I imagine other neighbors feel
impacted by the new traffic light timing, aggressive driving, and crosswalk cycle issues that I am
observing. As the commission addresses growth, traffic, and pedestrian needs, please consider these
observations and concerns.
