HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-01-12 I I I Bozeman, Montana 12 January 1972 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, Municipal Building, l2 January 1972, at l:15 o'clock p.m. Present were Mayor Grabow, Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Lehrkind, Commissioner Vandeventer, COmmissioner Vollmer, Acting City Manager Keyes, Acting City Attorney O'Connell and the Clerk. Commissioner Vandeventer opened the meeting with a prayer and the following proceedings were had: Minutes of the regular meeting held 5 January 1972 were approved as read. Request to Attend Montana State Fire Chiefs' Conference l4-16 January 1972; Great Falls, Chief Jack Huber & Ass't Chief Herbert Hoey: The Montana State Fire Chiefs' Conference is scheduled to be held in Great Falls, 14-16 January 1972 and Fire Chief Huber requested that he and Ass't Fire Chief Hoey be authorized to attend the Conference. It was moved by Commissioner Vollmer, seconded by Commissioner Sedivy, that Fire Chief Huber and Ass't. Fire Chief Hoey be authorized to attend the conference and, it being in the public interest their expenses be paid from the General fund and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Vollmer, Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Lehrkind, Commissioner Vandeventer and Mayor Langohr; those voting No, none. Reports: The following reports were presented: Police Chief Fire Chief Librarian The Acting City Manager commented on the reports and recommended approval thereof. It was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Lehrkind, that the reports be approved and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Lehrkind, Commissioner Vandeventer, Commissioner Vollmer and Mayor Langohr; those voting No, none. Bond Sale for SID No. 50S - $30,000.00 Construction Water Mains South 20th Avenue: This was the time and place set for the sale of the bonds of Special Improvement District No. 50S. Affidavit of publication of Notice of Sale of the Bonds was presented. The Mayor and the Acting City Manager outlined the proceedure for conducting this bond sale and stated that the amount of bonds to be sold for SID No. 505 would be in accordance with the advertisement as follows: Advertised Amount Amount to be Sold SID No. 50S $30,000.00 $30,000.00 Mayor Grabow announced the City was ready to conduct the bidding on the bonds of Special Improvement District No. 50S in the amount of $30,000.00. The following bidders qualified by depositing with the Clerk of the City Commission the necessary bid security. Bidder Representing Charles C. Morledge, M.D., Billings Self Kermit A. (Jack) Brant, Bozeman Self Phillip R. Sandquist, Bozeman Security Bank & Trust Co., The lowest effective interest rate accruing to the City of Bozeman were as follows: Bidder Interest Rate Charles C. Mor1edge, M.D., Billings 6.8% Security Bank & Trust Company, Bozeman 6.0% Kermit A. (Jack) Brant, Bozeman 5.8% Following the recommendation of the Director of Finance, concurred in by the Acting City Manager, it was moved by Commissioner Lehrkind, seconded by Commissioner Vandeventer, that the bid of Jack Brant, Bozeman, Montana, being the lowest and best bid submitted, the sale of the bonds be awarded to Jack Brant of Bozeman and the bid security of the unsuccessful bidders be returned and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Lehrkind, Comm- issioner Vandeventer, COmmissioner Vollmer, Commissioner Sedivy and Mayor G~a~ow; those voting, No, none. Consideration of Construction Bids - Special Improvement District No. 505: The City Engineer and the engineers representing consulting Thomas, Dean and Hoskins, Inc., having completed their study of the bids submitted for the construction of the Water Mains on South 20th Avenue, Special Improvement District No. 50S, and having prepared a final tabulation of the bids recommended that the bid be awarded to Tynes Construction Company, Great Falls, Montana, on the basis of their bid in the amount of $29,065.00 for Schedule No.1 and $6,860.00 for Schedule 215 216 No. II and that Change Order No.1 prepared by Thomas, Dean & Hoskins, Inc., become a part of the original contract for construction as follows: A. Description: Delete pavement crossings with 6" cast ironwater main. This allowed the contractor to reduce his bid price on 6" cast iron water main from $7.50/lin.ft. to $7.35/lin.ft. To reduce the project cost to funds available. Deduct 420.90 (2806 Lin. ft. @ $0.l5/lin ft.) Adjust contract price. $35,504.10 The consulting engineers stated that the approved change order along with various minor deduct- ions will bring the project within the funds available with Schedule II being paid entirely by available wate department funds as anticipated. The Acting City Manager concurred with the recommendation of the consulting engineers and it was moved by COmmissioner Vandeventer, seconded by Commissioner Vollmer, that the contract be awarded to Tynes Construction, Great Falls, Montana, on the basis noted above and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting aye being Commissioner Vandeventer, Commissioner Vollmer, Commissioner Sedivy, Commissioner Lehrkind and Mayor Grabow; those voting No, none. Proclamation, "Jaycee Week" 16-22 January 1972: In accordance with the Bozeman Jayce~ Mayor Grabow proclaimed the week of 16-22 January 1972 as "Jaycee Week" to observe the founding of the Jaycees. It was moved by Commissioner Vollmer, sec- onded by Commissioner Sedivy, that the Commission concur in the Mayors proclamation and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Vollmer, Commiss- ioner Sedivy, Commissioner Lehrkind, Commissioner Vandeventer, Commissioner Vollmer and Mayor Grabow; those voting No, none. Ad iO\lrnment: There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by Commissioner Sedivy, seconded by Commissioner Lehrkind, that the meeting be adjourned and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Sedivy, Commiss- ioner Lehrkind, Commissioner Vandeventer, Commissioner Vollmer and Mayor Grabow; those voting No, none.
