Lavin - Black OliveTo the City Commission: We live a few blocks to the southwest of the proposed Black Olive apartment development near the corner of South Tracy and Curtiss. We are in favor of the additional intown living and business space that this development would provide. However, we are concerned with the large size and design of this proposed development that would contrast to the Blackmore Apartment building and the the adjacent neighborhood to the south. We are also concerned with the effect this development would have on increased traffic and parking needs in the adjacent neighborhood. Although the developer would like to add an additional story onto his proposed development (as he stated in the meeting last week to the design board), perhaps reducing the proposed development by one floor would allow the ground-level parking lot to accommodate all the parking needs of the Black Olive apartment dwellers and the patrons of the associated businesses residing in the Black Olive building. A one floor reduction in the proposed size would also accommodate a design that would contrast less with the Blackmore Apartment Building and the adjacent neighborhood (as long as the issue is addressed of how the exterior building materials would age into a patina rather than a state of shabbiness).
