project I was reminded of the incredible architectural community (both
past and present) that we have in Bozeman. I only wish this board had
some legal standing. I hope that for all their hours of volunteer work
they are at least considered by the commission when they have the vote
on this project in front of them. I realize they only “speak” with
opinions just like the rest of the community versus the “speaking” with
money of the developers, but my big take away from the DRB meeting
was simple: JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN, DOES IT MEAN YOU
SHOULD! The developer plainly said he would build a ten story
building if he could; clearly he would eat up as much of our big sky as
possible to line his pocketbook! And he’s not stopping with this
one… I propose that the City of Bozeman needs a serious up date to its
growth policy allowing for a realistic future that won’t ruin the character
of our town. Parking is a serious aspect of this policy and needs to be
addressed before the problem gets any worse. This parking study needs
to include ALL scenarios including a “full” buildout of all possible B3
lots as one possibility and not just the one car per dwelling model but as
residential codes too; one car per bedroom! Standing on Peet’s hill I
often look at downtown and see the massive buildings Mr. Holleran has
already built and I dare say it’s looking more and more like any town
USA. City commission please do your part to keep Bozeman unique!
