HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-15-16 Public Comment - C. & D. Clingner - Black OliveBLACK OLIVE PROJECT We live at 217 S. Tracy and have for the last 19 years. We are opposed to the Black Olive Project and here are some of our reasons. We have been following the efforts of the several neighborhood organizations and feel these are thoughts that have not been expressed to date. We agree with most of the thoughts expressed at the several meetings we have attended. I. We have been watching the 5M project as it is in our travels North on Tracy. We see no set- backs, and are not happy with the way in which the construction takes up to half of the 2 streets bordering the project. We can only assume that the Black Olive construction will be as big of a headache to travel on Olive during construction. Remember that Olive is a local street, not a collector street like Mendenhall, and therefore is narrower and we don’t believe traffic can be maintained during construction. II. The 5M project has destroyed any existing trees, so we have no faith that this project will leave the trees that are there (even though Home Base says they will remain). That means at least 8 mature trees will be lost. III. We have been impressed at the renovations that have taken place on Main Street. There has been a concerted effort to restore historic appearances to many buildings, most recently to the building on the SE corner of Tracy and Main. The Black Olive Project is not in keeping with these efforts, and in fact is ugly by comparison. IV. This project, right across the street from the historic Blackmore Apartments is another slap in the face of historic Bozeman because the exterior design of the Black Olive project is not in keeping with the historic architectural nature of the neighborhood. These observations, along with the many others which have been expressed by our neighbors and others in the community, convince us that the Black Olive Project should not be approved.
