I am writing regarding the Taproom across the street from Hawthorne Elementary. We are
parents of a 2nd grader at Hawthorne and we will have a kindergartener there next year.
We have been frustrated and discourage this year to see the Taproom open next to our school.
And we have learned that it was given a permit to operate so close to the school due to a
technicality related to the street address they used. It is sad that the Commission allowed an
operation like this to be established and to be open, during school hours, right across the street.
And to think they have an open air deck that looks into the school, and patrons utilize the few
parking spots that parents have left to pick up their children safely. It is just not right.
We have now learned that the Taproom is seeking a full liquor license. We strongly encourage
you to reclaim the application and allow for future noticed public comment. We do not support
them being able to modify their liquor license to serve hard alcohol. It is the wrong place for a
taproom, and should never been allowed. It is an even worse place for a full bar.
