Dear City Staffs,
I would like to comment on the proposed development on Black and Olive streets. I would like the City to
critically review this project based on the feedback of the local neighborhood, and what is in the best
interest of our community vs. the developer.
The majority of neighborhood residents (including myself) and beyond, do not support this large
development. The reasons are many. Negative impacts on neighborhood values include increased traffic,
insufficient parking, increased noise, decreased safety for pedestrians and bicyclists, unaffordability of
units for people who actually work here, and more. Bottom line is that this development would destroy
what makes a neighborhood a neighborhood.
I just Googled the word "neighborhood" and here is the 4th result: Neighborhoods | Bozeman Luxury Real Estate
This result is a sad commentary on Bozeman and I hope that you would agree that our city should not be
associated with "luxury" living.
And beyond the proposed development on Black and Olive, I would ask the City to develop a strategic
plan and building regulations that benefit the real people--not the rich and privileged, not the part time
residents who "play" here, and not the developers who are making money at the expense of our
neighborhoods and community.
I have worked at MSU for 16 years and rent a small house. I know that I will never be able to afford my
own house. That's my reality. More importantly, I care about people who can't afford rent in this
community, and have to move or commute 1-2 hours a day and have less time to care for their kids and
their elders.
I can only hope that our city leaders are altruistic and develop a strategic direction that realizes a vision
for the greater good of our community.
Sincerely,
Mary McFadzen
