HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-01-16, Public Comment, Kig, Black Olive & BlackDear City Commissioners,
I am writing to urge you to vote against the current design of the Black-Olive apartment
building. The project is too big to be located next to so many smaller houses. This side of the
street should be lower-storied buildings so as to provide a transition to the residential portion
of downtown.
Parking, is of course a big problem in this area. I live on South Bozeman street and the street
parking in this area is most always full. The truth of it is, that most people, even those living in
an apartment downtown, own a car. Typically, one car per adult person. This means this
development will add congestion to this already busy part of downtown.
What I most dislike about this project is the imposition of a large, tall building next to small,
one- to two-story homes. This is just a bad idea! Large developments like this need a buffer
zone of empty space, or a transition zone of similar-sized / height buildings. Otherwise one will
impose on the other. This is not good planning and this is not good governance. The golden
rule applies here. What would you feel if this were happening next to your house?
I do support well-designed and tasteful development downtown. And it is not easy to do when
the core of a city is expanding. But it must be done well, otherwise we risk spoiling what is of
value here.
Please send my comments to the Design Review Committee and Board.
Thank you for your consideration,
David King
